Planning on pre mixing some painkillers and rum punches this trip.
Any recipes?
Which rum do you use?
Thanks
Dave

For painkillers, we make a big batch in a gallon water jug:
4 cups pineapple juice
1 cup OJ
1 cup Coco Lopez
Add dark rum to suit your taste. I know the "original" calls for Pussers, but we use Cruzan or Mt. Gay.
Add fresh grated nutmeg on top.

Why? Most of that stuff does not keep so well. There is good reason why almost no bar has ready made pre mixed drinks. I believe you are thinking to much or trying to hard.

Stormy, I interpret his question differently (premixing meaning making up a batch), and we also make up a whole batch at once. A gallon of PKs doesn't last too long with our crew. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think most of the bars do the same thing.

Actually Chris, Gerorge Myrick said in his book, for rum "Dealer's Choice". The original recipe didn't care what rum was used.

Rum punch 1can pinapple, 1 unsweetened can OJ, small coco lopez, 1 small bottle of ruby red or regulat grapefruit juice, about 3 oz of grenadine. Or if you can find Langers Pineapple, orange,

I did mean mixing up a batch at a time. With 8 on board, it won't last too long and beats making each one from scratch each time. Sorry for not clarifying.

We keep it premixed and it never lasts long enough to go bad! The kids like the virgin, pre-alcohol version too.

Ron, if you've been to the BVI in the past 10 yrs, everyone has pre-made mixes.

Seriously...do you think poor Mic could make all the painkillers at Soggy Dollar without premade mix?? All he does is pour rum....the rest is premade and gets added along with the nutmeg....

I read recently that Pusser's owns the trademark for the Painkiller. If that's true, then using any other rum in it is illegal! Which just might make taste even better to you pirates.

Except that Tobias got the recipe from the Myricks.

rum punch (in blender is best):
2 cups each orange and pineapple juice
1/4 cup coco lopez
splash of cranberry for color
add light rum to each glass and finish with dark rum floater

pain killer in a gallon jug:
46 oz can pineapple
1 can coco lopez (melt it down in waterbath on stove)
15 oz OJ
add Dark Cruzan Rum to each drink for desired strength
top with ground nutmeg

Funky Monkey in blender (this is what I call them? but probably just a simple bushwacker)

3 oz baileys
2 oz light rum
2 oz coco lopez
1 ripe banana

I usually have my kids with me and they like these drinks so I make them without alcohol in batches and then add the rum as I drink them. Not the last one since that's mostly alcohol.

For PKs, a can of pineapple juice, a can of coco lopez as the measure for OJ and Rum works for us. 1 1/2 cans Cruzan Dark is our taste for rum.

Cruzan has gotten much better the last few years, They added a lot of new American oak barrels to their lineup and their 2 year old standard dark is a decent sipping rum now. Pussers? Since the Tortola plan shut down it has been pretty solventy, not a fan.

Cheers, RickG

Timely thread! Last night we were making our provisioning list and doing the math on a gallon of painkillers. "Hmm was that 8x 2oz or 16x 2oz? I don't know. Let's go back to our rum tasting"
Agree that with 6 people on board the gallon won't last long.
For what it's worth our top 3 rums are: Kracken, Enlglish Harbor 5 Yr Old Rum and Captain Morgan 1671. Luckily Caribbean Cellars carries 2 out of the 3

An interesting read direct from Pusser's: PAINKILLER Trademark

Apparently their response (above link) was an attempt to clear the air after they successfully defended their trademark against a NYC bar -- their lawsuit caused a lot of negative vibes and press for them.

Made one for my wife at new years, then her sister wanted one, then a couple more wanted one, then I wanted one. Man I should have made a batch.
