Hi. I was wondering if anyone has been to Oceans 7 recently in Great Harbor Peter Island. Recent reviews have been pretty good. Does Oceans 7 maintain the mooring balls? I don't see them listed on boaty ball or Peter Island's website. My crew wants to spend the day at Norman Island but I had read that the Bight isn't protected very well from ESE winds. I thought we could stay at Norman until 2:30 and head over to Great Harbor and grab a mooring ball for the night and have dinner at Oceans 7. The forecast is for winds at 20 mph ESE. From what I read Great Harbor is well protected. Thanks!

Don't know anything about Oceans 7 but not sure where you are seeing that the Bight isn't protected from ESE winds.

Hi. I thought the Bight was well protected too so I appreciate your comments. It will make it easier just to stay there overnight. I guess I did too much research. Below is what I found. This is why I asked about Great Harbor.
While The Bight at Norman Island is a popular and generally well-protected harbor in the British Virgin Islands, it is not the best protected harbor from ESE winds.
Here's why:
Open to the West: The Bight is a large bay that is open to the west. This means it is well-protected from the prevailing easterly trade winds, which are common in the BVI. ESE Exposure: However, winds from the East-Southeast (ESE) can blow directly into The Bight, potentially making conditions less comfortable.
Other Protected Harbors: There are other harbors in the BVI that offer better protection from ESE winds. Some examples include: Great Harbour, Peter Island: Located on the western side of Peter Island, this harbor is generally well-protected from most wind directions, including the east. Benures Bay, Norman Island: Situated on the eastern side of Norman Island, this bay offers good shelter and can be more protected from ESE winds compared to The Bight. Lee Bay, Great Camanoe Island: This bay on the western side of Great Camanoe offers calm waters and good protection from easterly winds.
Therefore, while The Bight is a convenient and often calm anchorage, if the forecast specifically calls for strong ESE winds, you might find better shelter in one of the other harbors mentioned.

This is just wrong. The Bight is protected from all wind directions, except NW - which never happens.
I'm thinking that this is AI on acid!

The Bight is protected from all wind directions, except NW - which never happens. Well... almost never. One time we experienced exactly that. We picked up a mooring in the Bight, and then abandoned it because a weird NW wind was making it rough as hell. Zipped over to Peter Island Sprat Bay. Nonetheless I'll add my agreement that an ESE wind should not be a problem in the Bight. Dan

I would watch the mooring balls. Had the experience of a pennant releasing after we tied up...thank goodness it was within the first few minutes and not at night. I used a secondary line on the next ball..

As for Oceans 7 it is owned by the Romneys and used mainly for the cruise shippers that they pick up in their cabs and transport on their boat to the place.I dont believe it is ever open in the evening, only when they can pack it with cruise shippers...

We enjoyed Ocean's 7. We grabbed a mooring and went ashore , many of the other boats on moorings also went. There were a couple of big parties at long tables but there was room for all at the many smaller tables. They have a pool too.We were there in November. The sun sets behind the hill so you're not getting fried. A nice thing about Great Harbor is the view of the lights of Road Town. Also, lots of room, you can get there late if necessary

Ocean's 7 has a great restaurant. The staff is awesome. We did a 6 week bareboat trip and ate there at least 7 times. They post their days and hours on their Facebook page.

Hi all, thanks for all of these responses. We did stay in the Bight at Norman and it was very nice. Yes, it was windy/choppy motoring from Moorings to Norman but it was very nice once we got there.
