Great news! I'm wondering who patched it as I was told the reason it never got patched is because that road is privately owned (which made no sense to me since it is essentially a public road).

The land is private but not the road and that was stipulated way back . Now the whole property is properly being Appraised for its real value and to be put up for sale . πŸ™πŸ‘if St.Maarten can out beat Curacao on the final sale price πŸ‘

As far as I know, the road is private, that's why it has never been repaired in 30 plus years. If it was public, I assume they would of repaired it by now.

Leslie.....if the road is public, why has the government not fixed a road that has been in terrible disrepair for many years?

Actually that road for the most part has always been repaired. I worked for Mullet Bay Resort way back in the 80’s

I just drove on that road in May (and for the past 30 years). Apparently St. Maarten has a different definition for "repaired" than I do.

I doubt the government fix the road so it must’ve been private individuals. As I’ve always understood it is private road, but they have to give access to the public since it’s the only road leading to the French side from the side of the island. It’s nice when public people take it upon themselves to fix what his government responsibilities. But again, I think some fear. Pushback from the government. Government tends not to like to be embarrassed and matters that they know they should be responsible for

With the pothole fixed.....now maybe next would be to buy a gallon of white paint to add to the speed bumps!!!!! That would save a lot of shock absorbers. LOL

You don't like the sudden surprise? I've pretty much know where they all are now after driving for a month each year for over 25 years.

Yes it has, it has been widened in a few places. Patched back up a few times, but nothing drastic. I do swear some spots are the same as they were 42 years ago!!! Glad to have that giant hole repaired!!!! We almost considered having some quick set in the trunk and the minute it started raining pouring it in the hole and hope for the best!!!!

scuba...i also have driven the roads for over thirty years and know where most are...but as i age, i don't see 'em quite like i used too. I have said for years, a little white paint on 'em would solve a lot of extra jolts.
