I am considering a stay on Carriacou with my wife. Can anyone comment on the island in general insofar as the atmosphere, restaurants, beaches etc. We were thinking of an 8 to 10 day stay..The lack of development is the attraction for us. We are interested in the Las Tortugas villa. Thanks

I liked Carriacou, I kept my boat in the yard for one season and anchored/stayed there for weeks. While my boat was on the handstand in the yard, I rented a nice small place called "treetops" (as it was on one of the highest places on the island). The island hasn't fully recovered from the devastation left behind by Hurricane Beryl last year. Your place is close to Paradise beach, and with a rental car, you can go explore the whole island. The people are friendly, and it is a safe place (everybody knows everybody). If you do go, try to visit Anse la Roche. I'm not sure how close you can get by car, but you can get there by dinghy. You have a view of Sandy Island from your villa, but going there is worth it as well. There used to be a shuttle across from the Paradise Beach Club; I hope that they've rebuilt and are offering that again.

Thanks for your reply. Do you have any advice on restaurants?

If the Fig'n'Bloggoe is open again, then I can recommend them, and the Paradise Beach Club combines good food and an unbeatable beach location looking towards Sandy Island. And dinner at Tim's in Anse La Roche is something special - there's a link on Facebook (but I don't have an account, so I can't check) because they aren't open all the time. Mom's Trini Roti in Hillsborough makes the best Rotis that I've ever had. And I loved the people, atmosphere, views, and food at Pizza Meh Heart!

But Carriacou is off the beaten path. If you go shopping for produce, don't bother making a list - just wander through all 4 grocery stores in Hillsborough or head to Tyrell Bay and just get whatever they happen to have. Likewise, restaurants often only have a few items on their menu because of lack of supply.

Thanks for the recommendations Zanshin. Availability of groceries could not be worse than Anegada
