Another mistake as we drove over to Altro in Cupecoy for a return visit only to find thier closed day is Sunday. We did check out the menu at French Coceette (spelling), but weren't in the mood for French cuisine Really just need to fill our bellies with no desire for ant particular type of food
Our meals on the Dutch side are less planned out, more flexible and more casual and not nearly as gourmet as the French side.
We still don't want to "waste" a meal.
We drive back to maho to go to La Rosa which sits behind the front row of stores at the far end to the casino and Moulan Fou. A pretty restaurant with great air conditioning. We were actually on the chilly side which was welcoming
Only a few tables are occupied with 2 servers Menus are presented and had to request special end of season prix fix menu 3 courses for $35 The special menu has about 6 appetizers and 6 entrees to choose from along with 3 desserts.
My wife ordered a la carte while I selected off the prix fix.
Drinks were served but had to remind the water for the ordered bottle of water Pretty simple service here but plain lack of attention.
A few small bites of crunchy bruschetta is served along with some slices of warm italian bread and mayonaissey-garlic butter
My wife's simple salmon carpaccio was very good with capers, olive oil, lemon and a "slaw" I ordered the spinach crepe which was good sized and delicious. The sauce seemed to be an Alfredo mixed with some tomato
No one asked how the first course was and when dishes were cleared I had to ask for a second round of drinks which had been empty for a good bit of time
Entrees are served piping hot, grated cheese is offered along with a empty bowls for shells but had to ask for knives since they were cleared with our first course
My wife's fussili with minimum seafood was average at best with very little white sauce for flavoring
My unbreaded chicken parmesean was okay along with typical spaghetti in red sauce, although they do have a good red sauce
Again no one checks back and can't even see our server who must be hiding somewhere else besides the dinningroom
I had ordered the profiteroles for my dessert with the prix fix only to find they were not available leaving me a choice of tiramisui or ice cream. Not in the mood for tiramisui which I had night before but better choice than ice cream
The tiramisui was a good portion and equally as tasty
Complimentary shots of limoncella are offered.
A 15% service charge is added to the bill with absolutely nothing additional added due to lack of service
A decent meal to fill the evening
If looking at menu from thier website add about 25% more There seemed to be a manager maybe owner hanging around the bar area but never stepped inside the dinningroom
The above review sounds like a typical review of LaRosa, and has for many years now. Some of the tastiest food on the island served there, but very few diners ''raving'' over the servers. It's sad, cause with some decent service, this place could easily place in the top five restaurants on the island. (my opinion).
