This is a notice I received from Sunsail concerning an upcoming charter.

Important: In accordance with new BVI Government regulations, all arriving passengers must show proof of transfer from the airport or ferry terminal to their final destination.

Is this a real thing?

Not sure I know all I understand about this requirement. If one plans to just pick up a cab at the terminal, exactly how would one be able to get outside the terminal without prior proof of transfer? Are they seriously concerned that a traveler might try to be a Tom Hanks as in the movie The Terminal and live in the luxury accommodations of the terminal for months?

One thing I have noticed over the years is the BVI government tends to cut and paste regulations from other countries. They often make no sense for the BVI. When they enacted fishing licenses they pasted what appear to be commercial fishing rules. Anyone painted the required 4’6’ flag on their charterboat before dropping a line in?

Or it was to placate the taxi lobby. They like to complain about the Riteway rum bus, shuttles operated by the charter companies - basically anything they perceive as stealing business from their esteemed members.

Mrs. Rat is exactly right. It's about the taxi drivers. And it is of course, ridiculous. How about a friend picking you up? Or walking/hitchhiking? Or having left your own car in the parking lot? Smells very Romney to me - like the old days.

Good info GeorgeC1! No proof of transfer was needed. Although Sunsail did made arrangements for us without asking.
