Wow has not been this low in a long time. Might be time to buy a few 100,000 of them. Maybe not. Could it go lower?

would think that very soon there probably will be shades of the golden days with an EVEN 1 to 1 again.

Since a year ago it takes 10 cents less to buy 1 British Pound, 20 cents less to buy 1 euro and 1 dollar will get you 10 more Canadian cents and 12 more yen. Time to party!

Be careful of the party, the us economy has been growing because of exports and with a strong dollar and lower euro they could cause deeper issues. Do like a bit more parity but it can be pretty complicated

One interesting thing on exports from the US. The US market is more stable sooo our exports have picked up, even tho it is more costly for other country's to buy. Stability IS a factor.

All I can say is it's about time! We American tourists have paid through the nose for a long time. Remember when the euro was less than the dollar? Banks are forcasting for the currencies to hit "parity" (1 to 1) by 2017. I wouldn't rush out and buy Euros quite yet! Odds are they will be lower at the end of your trip than when you arrive!!!

I think the fact that oil trades in US DOLLARS is the major
controlling reason for the current fluctuation in the euro/dollar at the moment. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/circle.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/circle.gif" alt="" />

If you have a Capital One ATM card you can get Euros at the Margot Post Office with no fees at the rate traded that day.
Watch out if your bank card charges foreign transaction & Currency exchange fees besides normal ATM fees. With the dollar moving up I don't see any advantage to converting to Euros. Most places post what they will trade dollars to Euros for so most times it is to your advantage. A few years ago we opened a Capital One checking account just to use for traveling in Europe & St Martin works great

Bear in mind also, the rates you are seeing are usually for bank to bank exchanges for large sums of money. Converting on a smaller basis for personal use may not be exactly the same.

Pretty close though....Yesterday I put a deposit down on an apartment rental in Paris and at the time of the transaction the euro was at 1.1330
the charge went through at 1.1354

...and even that could have been just a time issue

No exchange fee cards are the way to go...ATM is the same

I am spending a month in Italy in October so I thought it would be a good idea to get some euros. I know that no one knows what will happen but if I can get $1 for 1.10, might be wise.

Latest (26 January 2015): EUR 1 = USD 1.1244 0.0046 (0.4%)
Change from 25 January 2014 to 26 January 2015
Minimum (23 January 2015): 1.1198 - Maximum (8 May 2014): 1.3953 -

So in a year that is quite a hit...and rumor has it you will see your 1.10 soon.

US banks generally charge a hefty fee for Euros, at least that was my experience year before last. I wish now that I'd waited until we got there and just gotten them from an ATM. Would have saved me quite a bit.

And for us Canadians, the French side (EUR) has become more affordable while the Dutch side (using USD) has become less affordable:

Jan 27 2014 it took 1.5180 CAD to buy a EUR and 1.1098 CAD to buy a USD
Today: 1.4102 CAD to buy a EUR and 1.2404 to buy a USD.

Now, to search for accommodation in Orient priced in EUR <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

While it has dropped to 1.135 as of today over the past two weeks of this post (3%), it does seem to have strengthened over the past few days, up from 1.124 or so. Forecasts for the next several months remain downward to the 1.1 range, but one should consider or wonder if we've hit a bottom.

(Gee, combined with the recent volatility of airfares, a trip to SXM requires either an economics doctorate or a crystal ball! )

Seems prudent for Americans to consider prepaying half or maybe all of their upcoming Euro-based vacations and locking in at least some of the current savings.

Lots of the currency forecasts online are old enough to be irrelevant. While everyone knows you can't predict the future or even 5 minutes from now, does anyone have an online source they consider in their opinion or experience to be insightful, credible, or "generally reliable"?

Any other current (1/29) thoughts?
