Hello All
Can anyone recommend a sailing school outfit In the USVI/BVI or SXM that will put you through the courses suitable to charter from them and other charter bases in the USVI/BVI/Bahamas and SXM?

Looking for a good program at reasonable cost.

You might combine a course and a charter by asking at the larger charter companies if they have a skipper available who can teach the ASA 101, 102 and 103 courses while on charter.

Sunsail, for many years, ran courses for people wanting to charter but without enough experience. They were usually out of places where they ran a beach club as well. The plan was you did the course in the first week and then had your own small monohull in one of their flotillas during the second week (or on a subsequent vacation if you couldn't do 2 weeks). They were never really advertised but existed for many years. Contact them and see what they say.

If the BVI sailing school plan doesn't come to fruition > get you a future co-captain > find an ASA school nearer to you (in the states) > take an ASA 101/102 course (lot of fun) > reach out to one of the BVI chartering companies about bare-boating. If you still don't feel comfortable, they will offer to place a "friendly captain" on board for the first day or so.

With an ASA 101/102 certificate > you will have higher credentials than 50% (?) of your fellow BVI sailors (TTOL'ers please comment on this 50% number).
