We are going back to St. John for a land based trip in a couple of weeks. We also sail bareboat in the BVI. We would love to do a day snorkel trip to the Caves and the Indians if it is possible from St. John. It would be great to enjoy our favorite spots and not feel 'responsible'. Does anyone know if this is possible? Recommendations? Thanks!

Sure. There are all sorts of day boats that leave St Thomas and pickup in St John and others that leave from Cruz Bay. If you get a boat with a captain, you can make your own itinerary. Some have a typical trip of the Baths, Cooper Island and snorkeling at the Indians.

Ocean Runner in Cruz Bay has boats with Captains. There are a bunch of individual charters that do private or group trips like this. We're fans of Local Flavor with Capt. Cleve and Palm Tree Charters.

Thanks for the recommendations Nutmeg, Rick, and fellow Michigander Aleta Skipper. We are returning to St. John for the third time. It has become our favorite land based trip. What a beautiful place. Your recommendations plus the petroglyphs hike will take away the sting of the Donkey Diner closing. At least I have the sweatshirt! Thanks again! Jane

Does anybody know anything about Capt Rick, who took over at Oh Be Joyful Sailing?

To clarify, Oh Be Joyful sailing is based at American Yacht Harbor on St Thomas.
