Until after dinner. It depends on the crowd. We've had them close when we had open tabs and had to settle up in the AM.

Cheers, RickG

when we've stayed there at Sandcastle, it's been known to be open really late.

It definitely slows at dinner when they play Celine Dion.

Nothing planned.....please help!

Is anchoring in white Bay JVD in front of soggy dollar a bad choice for the first night being a Wednesday? Doing a clockwise trip starting the first night on JVD. Would like to do the Dingy Pub Crawl but will be at Leverick Bay on Friday (5/15) morning.

We don't anchor in White Bay, too much of a pinball game. We dingy over from Great Harbor, taxi after dark.

Cheers, RickG

If a swell is present, it often bounces back to white bay...if a squall comes in and water comes over reef, you will be up a creek. If deep draft..might well be bouncing on a very hard sand bottom, doing damage..neighbors likely dragging anchor and getting underway and out through the reef in a storm at night, not easy, and likely violates the charter agreement you signed that would not be underway after dark. Some charter companies redline white bay. Some charterers learn it can be a problem the hard way. Some have never had a problem and would say "never mind" to this advice. Your mileage may vary according to weather and luck.

This goes back a few years but, in 2002 we tried to anchor in between Soggy Dollar and Ivan's and couldn't get the anchor to hold. While we were diving on the anchor I noticed the rear end of an old vehicle buried in the sand - so we tied up to that. Actually a loop that could be let loose from the boat if we needed to get away in a hurry. Without going into all the drama, next morning, while having breakfast at the Soggy Dollar, a microburst came through - 90 mph winds sustained for about 15 minutes, Total carnage, Anybody that didn't have their engine fired up and ready to go ended up in the west end and in trouble. Our boat was lucky that nobody dragged down on us. I was unable to locate that rear end on a subsequent trip and headed over to Great Harbor to drop the hook in the rocks. Anyway, White Bay is a gorgeous anchorage, until it isn't. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
