We were in St. Martin from 10/6-10/16 and absolutely had a blast. We met friends form both the east and west coasts. When we arrived the beach was in great condition and walking on Oreint in front of Pedros to Baywatch was a very easy trip. It seemed like some of the rocks had been put up on the wall to make walking easier. Tiko was out so we elected to try the substitute boat that was right at Club O. It is called the "Pelos" (Tiko Tiko was back sailing just before we left) The Pelos brought us to Tintamarre and then to Pinel for lunch. We were supposed to go snorkeling after lunch but the sky opened up and we had a torrential downpour. It wasn't a problem since we stayed with good company at the restaurant and kept eating and drinking. The Pelos was not on the same level as Tiko Tiko but we still had a good day.
We met Andy at Baywatch and his renovations look great. He was anxious to get back to business and had planned to re-open on 10/18.
We played a little volleyball but it was so hot that most people retired to sand gravity. Papagayos just doesn't look the same with the drab color scheme and they actually painted over "Party Naked" That's just not right.
Carlos was there and pleasant as always. The wait staff was very good and attentive and I can say we had no complaints about the food. We had Lobster on one night that was very good. The 2 for three night special room rate made the accomodations a great bargain. The water was very warm and
every day except 2 we had great sun. We took a cab from the airport ($25.00) and it was great. We went to Grande Case by cab for $15.00 one way and the driver came back and picked us up right to the minute we asked for.
One day when the cruise ships were in we set-up a bead giveaway like Mardi Gras on the beach. Several people decided to lose their clothes and at one point it seemed like the whole beach was involved with cheering etc. We went through 60 strings of beads without a problem. The next day people who participated who normally wouldn't moved their chairs to the c/o section--what a blast. The night of the 15th we were at Calmos Cafe with our feet in the water and a large wave came up about three quarters of the way through the restaurant. It must have been the start of Wilma. The next day the beach had diminished substantially.
Summing up:
