Just returned from 17 days in Thailand and Cambodia. The main focus of the trip was to see the temples of Angkor Wat, and since we were already in that part of the world, saw some of Bangkok, and the surrounding area. Then after that, onto Siam Reap/Angkor Wat, then passed through Phnom Penh on our way to Sihanoukville on the Southwest coast of Cambodia for some beach time before the marathon trip back home. This was definetly a trip of a lifetime. We arranged our in country guides and most transportation with a tour operator in Phnom Penh. All I can say was that the trip went flawlessly! All of the guides were well spoken, well trained and very attentive to our schedule and not to theirs. Now is the time to go visit these magnificent ruins. Our guide in Siam Reap told us that he felt that in 5 years many of the temples will have limited access to prevent further wear and tear. We never felt like we were in any danger, even when we would venture out at night in the tuk-tuks to find a place to eat. But we also never went out into the countyside/jungle on foot or to any really out of the way places as there are still land mines. Anyway, just wanted to pass along a brief account of our adventure and to tell anyone who is thinking of going or would like to, GO NOW, spend the money and enjoy the wonders of that part of SE Asia.
Happy Traveling
