I must go back a bit to our ferry ride to Jost...While waiting in west end we met this nice couple from Canada, Marg and Ron, and shared a couple of beers...These two stayed at Sandcastle...and they would be leaving the island the same time as us, and then travel to Virgin Gorda by ferry..They also had stayed at CGB for a few days...Well, as we arrived on the ferry return to West end, our friends, Marg and Ron, were there....We enjoyed the ferry ride, clear skies touching that caribbean water..We all shared a cab to Road Town, and said good-bys and hoped we'd bump into each other in San Juan...Myriah and I had a very nice breakfast at Marias By The Sea.. outside on the balcony...They were so nice and extended their breakfast time for us...A bit later, mom and daughter hugged and kissed, and I sent her on her way,by cab, to the airport...Make no mistake, she was very sad to be leaving... As soon as she left I took off to do "what a girls gotta do"...get a manicure and pedicure...ok, after that pampering...I decided to go to the Village Quay for a drink...well, well, well-what a drink that was!!! The bartenders name was "Kid", and he made the absolute strongest, some kinda, rum drink I ever had...well, really I had two...Quite a nice atmosphere here, nice pool area...Then, I wandered over to Pussers for a great hamburger and fries, and Carib...Got into conversation with some locals...and walked back to Marias...I had to get up early for the 7am ferry ride to Anegada!!!.....That ride was a beautiful experience...They were playing some spiritual music, that just happened to be my husband's favorite..Even though he passed away a couple of years ago, I felt he was on that boat with me..... Arrived at Anegada, took a cab over to Neptunes...met Randy, the most wonderful host, went to Pams bakery, met Michelle and husband,Tom...They celebrated their first anniversary while I was there. Tom is just so friendly, and makes a great pot of coffee, ready by dawn...Met Linda and singing Sally(the waitress)...that afternoon, I took a nice walk to Purple Turtle and Anegada Reef..I walked the road over, and had a sense that Cape Cod looked something like this many, many years ago..precommercialism..no cactus or palm trees in Ma. I stopped at the Lobster Trap for lobster fritters, the closest this N.E.er will get to a spiney lobster..I prefer conch fritters............That evening I met three very wonderful people..and we would be companions in our exploration of the island...get this...one of the three,an 83 year old gentleman,Dick, would be our well informed guide. He has been visiting the island for two weeks every year, for the last ten years...and is known by all to walk from Cow Wreck to Neptunes.....in the buff!!! This is a good 5 miles.. He did keep his clothes on while hanging out with us... <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" /> The other part of our group was Nancy and Jim, from Dallas..Saturday, I rented a green jeep from Dean Whitley and off we went...a few high lights of the day: meeting Belle, Shaina, and Ebony at Cow Wreck. Belle does make the best conch fritters ever, and is very sweet...Cow Wreck is so beautiful, the sand is the most wonderful texture and the ocean is so expansive and blueeeee, green... we all liked this beach best.. just us, well, maybe three other people...I even collected a few shells...Our other experience was hanging out at Faulkners General Store, meeting Doris and Stanley...We sat with them for an hour, and were treated to beer...They had an interesting past from NY and Marthas Vineyard....Some of the best experience of staying at Neptunes is listening to patriarch,Vernon's stories about everything, when Belle used to babysit his kids and then he'd "run" her home...his fishing with Foxy...I could listen to him forever while we sipped our wine....Neptunes Treasure has the best fish, and we ate our three dinners right there...the best sword fish and tuna I've ever had!...eatting by the stars over the ocean..We certainly celebrated the full moon...Sunday, we decided to return to Cow Wreck..Michelle and Tom and another family were hanging out at the beach...Shaina, Ebony, and the other children played together....All of a sudden, from the direction of the road, Edie(from part one/Tamarind) comes walking to the beach..I knew our paths would cross..she recounted her stories of the charter, people having difficulty getting along in close quarters....She was staying at Leverick and about to go on a charter in St. John............Well, this trip in Anegada was perfect...But my very last morning I was reminded of the book, "Don't Stop The Carnival" ...Early in the morning I got up...no water for a shower...a little sputtering of brown water to brush your teeth..I used my bottled water..Nancy and Jim went to find Randy to let him Know abou the dilemna...He was running around, checking this problem...He did tell me there was one cottage with water for a shower...but if we could all pray for some rain.... Nancy, Jim and I headed out in a cab to the ferry dock...Dick would be flying to St. Thomas later that day, then back to Indiana till next year...and next year will definitely be a longer stay for me...Back in Tortola, I hung out at Trellis...I was very impressed with Aragorns Art Studio. I grabbed a salami and cheese sanwhich at the little store and ate it at the airport...My flight to San Juan was uneventful, but who did I bump into in the ladies room...Marg, from Jost..We embraced and exchanged e-mail addresses..said bye to Ron...went to my gate to wait for my flight home...Here is where I have to list my negatives about this trip: Mosquitos, sand-fleas, no-seeums. I didn't use perfume..I had deet/off..I bought citronella oil in Tortola...nothing worked..They feasted on me...Would this stop me from going back...NEVER..I leave, only to come back next time....dette, free to be me when I'm in the BVI.
