Is there any reason that we shouldn't make North Sound our first destination after leaving the Moorings base? People always seem to do Norman, Cooper, Trelis, etc first but beating all the way to VG will solve a scheduling problem for us later in the week. Is there something I am not considering?
Thanks as always for the great advice on this board.

It's a long beat from Road Town. It would depend if your guests are experienced and if you want to start the trip beating into wind and seas

There is no reason not to however keep in mind that getting off the moorings dock can be a slow process. I would only consider it if you are a sleep aboard. G

A couple of weeks ago we did the run from Sopers Hole to Leverick because our guests had to be at the Friday night BBQ.
It a a very long hard day, but, that one hard drive up made it all the more relaxng on our way back around. Took us 5 hours and quite a bit if water over the bow.
It's not something I'd like to do again, but if the impact is large, as it sounds like it may be for you, it may be worth it.

What is the scheduling problem you might have? Would an overnight at Cooper island affect it?

I agree with sail2wind. If your crew is inexperienced it could make for a long day. However, if it solves a scheduling conflict and makes the rest of the trip easier, it may be worth it in the long run. As long as the crew is prepared for a longer than normal day on the water, I think it is worth it personally.

It's about 3 - 3.5 hours under power, depending seas. If you aren't off the dock by about 2, you will be in the dark getting into North Sound. That's a no no with charter companies. Better to stop at Cooper or Trellis, getfamiliar with the boat and actually sail. Both are great stops and North Sound will still be there the next day.
