SXM Trip Part 6-2/7

After enjoying a really great day at Happy Bay it was time to head back to the villa with the intentions of going over to Maho later to watch the sunset. Once back in the villa my wife said she wasn't feeling very good and frankly neither was I. We had been going a million miles an hour and we both were out of steam, so we kicked back and chilled out for a while. We actually ended up falling asleep for several hours and woke up after the sun had set. Still feeling less than perfect, we drove to a nearby store and picked up some water, chicken noodle soup and some kinda sorbet, makings of a very romantic gourmet dinner in the villa woohoooo! I wish we had found this well stocked store earlier in the week, it's so non descript that we missed it all week, it's just a mile up the road on the left heading towards Marigot. In the villa we discovered there were only 2 channels that were in English, but at least the movie channel was! We watched a couple mindless B movies and at some point called it a night. Sorry, no photo's of this not so exciting portion of our trip, but let's imagine what the sunset might have looked like, shall we.....

In the morning we were still feeling exhausted, but that didn't stop us from enjoying another incredible sunrise from our villa at NBBC.

Considering that this was our last full day on the island, we decided to do something totally foreign to us when vacationing, we did absolutely NOTHING! We chose to find out firsthand what all the talk is about regarding "villa gravity." Through the years we've stayed at some fantastic villas, but we can't remember ever spending an entire day just lazing around, but keep in mind that we are new members to the empty nester club!! Oh well, let's give it a try!!

Once we had our coffee and tea ready we moved outside to begin our day of relaxation on our extremely comfortable beachfront patio. In my vegetative state I almost didn't notice little miss island girl sneaking up on us. Glad I had my cell phone to take these shots. I wonder if she still thinks about me like I do her? and I don't even know her name.

Nettle Bay Beach Club really is a beautiful complex and the grounds are kept very clean by the nice staff we saw every morning. Our villa was very comfortable and the area in and around NBBC was super quiet all week, perhaps that's because of the full time residents that live here? We rarely saw or heard another person in our section of villas. I saw one other person swimming in the refreshing beach front pool all week.

We periodically caught up on emails as we lounged, making everyone at home in Virginia jealous by texting photos of our warm sunny adventures. Some would reply with photos of them shoveling snow, now that made me jealous, NOT! As we were working on our tan, in my case my pinkness, I looked way up in a palm tree and discovered this little guy staring down at us, cool.

The day really consisted of basic lounging in a big way, we'd get up to get a drink, grab a snack and/or the occasional stroll out onto the beach, perfect. Oh and my wife will kill me when she sees this, but I had to document her tending to my most traumatic injury! By the way, the nail continues to survive to this day, however it's sporting a lovely black and burgundy hue.

Later in the afternoon we worked up enough energy to actually "drive" down to Dreams, WOW...now that was laaaaaazy!! We had really enjoyed their pizza on our first night and that sounded perfect for tonight's dinner... may we get that to go please? Merci beaucoup!

We have days like that where we gravitate from porch to pool to beach to porch.....and love the nothingness of it all. It's your vacation and should be a full compilation of whatever makes you happy.

Sorry to learn you were under the weather for a bit, but with all your activity in that little bit of time it doesn't come as too much of a surprise. Glad you recovered and enjoyed right to the end.....

Thank you again for your gorgeous photos....... <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

Beerman--thanks for the lovely pictures. And I am almost grateful that you finally ran out of steam, as you were really making me tired! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" /> Lately, our best days are spent 'at home' at Beachside Villas, enjoying our time in our favorite place on earth. Glad you enjoyed your time on SXM!

Great pictures! Good to hear that you finally rested. Whew! I'm not sure I could have left that sweet little island dog behind. I have a feeling she would have been on the plane with me. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Wink.gif" alt="" /> Not that my 3 dogs and 2 cats here at home would have been very pleased about it. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" />

Well thanks Beerman for destroying the secret of Nettle Bay Beach Club. Hope we can get reservations again there sometime <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Wink.gif" alt="" /> after your glowing report and great pictures.
We truly enjoyed your trip reports and it's prepping us for our April visit as we do the island pretty much the same way. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Clapping.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for the photos Beerman. What a great beach!

Pan, I was surprised to see this little gem myself. I will definitely have a look next time we want to get off the boat for a weekend.

Great pictures. I didn't realize the beach was so nice at NBBC. Will have to check it out sometime.

Sorry Pan!! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

Fabila and others that want to check it out I would suggest stopping in at MaTi or Dreams for dinner or a drink and walk down the beach, NBBC is right there.

We didn't actually swim at NBBC so I can't comment on that other than to say that there were sea urchin warning signs posted along our section of the beach, we could see the rock/coral shelf was much larger on our end at the waters edge. Water access seemed much easier in the center of NBBC and towards MaTi/Dreams.

We are familiar with the area although had not considered staying there. After 19 trips I wouldn't mind spending a few nights close to Marigot but not being able to swim on the beach in front of the resort would be a deal breaker for us. We will check it out next vacation while at Dreams.

Thanks again for all the daily reports. I personally know how time consuming it is to do especially if/when there are connectivity issues.
