We are staying at Little Dix Bay in June. I would like to take a tour of Tortola one day and eat at Myetts. Should we rent a car or take a guided tour? Any suggestions would be most helpful.

Tortola, British Virgin Island...
Ferry over to Trellis Bay from LDB, I know some really good taxi guys that can give you a great little island tour for about what a rental would cost. Renting a car is fun, particularly if you make a day of it with cooler etc...But "story time" from a conscientious taxi guy is well worth the time and $, PM me if you want some phone numbers.

I am with patouche! We have explored Tortola both by car and by taxi. We learned so much more about the island when we took the guided taxi ride. Great stories.

I agree that a taxi is well worth it for the background, history, and they will make sure that you see everything which you might otherwise miss in a car. The drivers will quote you a price at the outset if you ask.

Thanks guys for your input. Looks like taxi is it. I saw one place where taxi rental is $55 per hour. Does that sound about right? As I said we would like to have lunch at Myetts, so I assume we could treat the driver to lunch there without a problem?

Thanks to you, too Manpot. I am a little hesitant driving on the other side of the road. I think I could relax better in a taxi, as well as get a history lesson of tortola at the same time.

If he is available, Bouncer is a good guy for a tour. Maybe Malcolm can dig up his number.

Dont have Bouncer's # but he would be a great choice..but I am down on taxis having felt scalded by their fares recently.. $25 Apple Bay to Sea Cow's and $27 from CGB to Apple..outrageous in my book!

But to be fair...(although I fully agree with Manpot on the pain of the cost).. taking one of those safari trucks over Zion Hill, and back over again to get himself back to Nanny Cay empty... is gonna guzzle a ton of fuel
Now... Apple over all the hills to CGB, and back empty... whew, even worse

I hurt for the tourists (ok,ok, even for Manpot) that have to pay those rates... but unless the driver piles on a bunch of peeps.... he ain't haulin in the big bucks

I love rentals. have your seat mate keep saying "keep to the left, keep to the left!" It doesn't take much to do it. If I can do it, anyone can. Very much fun and an adventure for sure!

Agree..my first impressions of driving round Tortola with a map were just magical..that said..if you want a guided tour go with AC who is a sponsor here..he took care of a group of 28 first timers and was terrific..
