Hate to bring this subject up again, but curious if anyone recently in SXM used traveler checks? Last year we brought them and learned one of the banks on the French side no longer accepted them, so any business using that bank would not take them. We prefer using them to having a lot of cash on hand or paying the credit card fees.

vebkid,
I have the same issue with bringing lots of cash. Last April there was so much talk about TCs not being accepted across the island that we chose not to bring them, and once there, we discovered that most - but NOT ALL - of the places we frequented would have taken them. When we went back in Dec. I chose to bring TCs and really only had one place tell me they were no longer accepting them. I had no problem cashing them at LeGrand Marche and at both The Dunes and Casino Royale. My favorite island restaurant no longer accepts them and said it was because their bank won't, which I fully understand. Fortunately for me, my favorite jewelry store still does, much to DH's dismay.
I would be one who would strongly advocate a Capital One Credit Card or another of your choice that charges no annual and/or other associated cc fees, and provides you with either miles or cash back. It really does mount up during the course of the year.

Thanks for your input. We have a few days to think over our options.

In March, you could cash a TC at any casino. If we cashed over $300 they asked if we were gambling there. We do gamble so that wasn't an issue for us - but no one tracked where we were going or what we were doing.

Jean Pierre at ANTOINES on Front St. Deals with a bank that doesn't accept TCs but a cc was no problem.

I cashed my TC at Starz(old Atlantis) and Princess casinos, with no problem in February.
Next SXM visit -November 2023. Also January 2024.
