Hi all, my husband and I have been traveling to St. Maarten once a year for the past 5 years. I finally found these boards after visit #4.

We make trip #6 in June. We have always gone November/December time frame in the past. I'm excited about the longer days (more daylight hours) while we are there this time.

I've learned so much from reading these boards. Thank you so much for taking the time to post trip reports, etc. It provides a much-needed St. Maarten fix at any time of year!

Just wanted to say Hi and nice to "meet" all of you! .

Will anyone else be on island the week of June 7?

Welcome to the board! We won't be on island then, but you may want to post your dates on the travel calendar.

As St Maarten is further south there is only a 2 hour difference in daylight time between December and June. Sunrise Sunset

Welcome aboard, Loislynn. We're just like any other family, sometimes we bicker back and forth and we often share different opinions on the same things, but the really nice thing about Everyone here is not only do we share a mutual love and enjoyment of the island, but we're all happy to help out when we have something worth sharing. There are participants here who have tons of island vacations under their belts and others looking forward to their first visits - so I hope you feel comfortable and stick around and share your experiences.

We will be at Royal Palm June 1 to the 17th.

You didn't mention where you would be staying Loislynn. Do you stay at the same place every time? How long to you get to enjoy St. Maarten this year?

Thanks so much for all of your replies.

We stay at the Westin (have a timeshare) - so now stay there every year. The first two times we stayed at Simpson Bay (love it there too!).

Right now we only get to be on the island one week per year. We have three children (19, 16 and 11) but haven't brought them with us yet. It has been a vacation for just the two of us so far.

Full-time jobs and kids still in school, etc make it difficult to go for more than a week right now. Someday I dream of staying for longer or coming twice a year.

Things we did last trip because of what I read on these boards:

1. Sint Maarten Yacht Club for breakfast and bloody mary's (my husband loves bloody mary's - he tried several and different places during our stay and did choose the yacht club's as the best). We also saw a mega yacht come thru the drawbridge that is owned by the owner of the Washington Redskins - we live outside of DC so that was kind of a fun coincidence.
2. Dinghy Dock - nice and close to the Westin - it was a quiet night when we went, but I loved sitting on the marina. Very beautiful.
3. Dreams in Nettle Bay. There was alot of seaweed on the beach and it started pouring rain while we were there which literally put a damper on that experience. :-)
4. Andy and Cheryl's on Orient. We met Cheryl! Again - Orient was covered in very bad smelling seaweed - so probably not the normal experience.
5. Kokomo - Loved it. Again - started raining while we were there so we only got to enjoy it for a short time. I thought it was lovely and will get even lovelier as they finish up all the landscaping and construction. It was expensive though.
6. Cheri's Cafe in Maho - saw the show. The lead singer (dressed as a woman) sat on my husband's lap. It was a cute show.

That's all I can think of right now.

I have a list of places to try on our next trip that are all things I've read about on these boards!

I remember dawn beach before the Westin, haven't spent time there since the Westin came to be. It looks lovely.
We first came with our daughters and my mom and loved it. We came twice a year one with them and once for us. Now the girls are 25 and 27 and we come by ourselves, twice a year. We call it Spring Break for Adults.
Our family knows we spend our days at Club Orient and tease me about my tans lines or lack thereof.
I love our time in St Maarten it feels like a honeymoon every time even though I have been married to my prom date for 35 years.

Hope your week brings you many adventures together.

Welcome to the group. DH and I will be there until 6/11 at CO. If you venture down that far on Orient stop by and say Hi. We are always setup somewhere near the Perch with a lot of other folks on this board. Everyone is always so nice and friendly.

We will be in SXM from May 30-June 13. We stay at the Royal Islander La Plage. This will be our 11th trip and we are still finding new places to go. Really want to try Dreams this time. My brother and his wife will be down the week before we get there and our times will cross for a week. Love the family time! And, for the first time, my little sister and her husband will be there for a week. Plan to show her all our favorite haunts! Can't wait!
