Does anyone know if they are ever going to fix the golf course?

The annual SXM carnival tournament is going on this week, and while the course itself doesn't look very pretty, they're all out there having a good time.

Fixed? It is what it is!! The sprinkler system is defunct so no rain means a brown course though they do usually water by truck for the tournaments even though it perhaps doesn't look that way. It's a little better maintained otherwise, than it has been prior to last April but Pebble Beach it isn't!! Some avid family golfers say yes, it's a disaster in some ways, but still a fun course with some interesting holes and they always have fun with it.

We ran into a guy at Simpson Bay Marina carrying golf clubs. I can not repeat on this board what he said. He traveled 2000 miles with golf clubs to play in a cow pasture. The greens were pathetically slow and bumpy, that's the nice stuff.

Again, it isn't Pebble Green and no one I know goes to the trouble of bringing their (good) clubs anymore, but unless you're a true 'golfer' it's a fun play and everyone has the same advantages or lack there of. If you play it as 'something else to do on the island' and with a sense of humor, it's a fun play. If that's not the case, save your golf for Stateside and enjoy the beach and water time instead.

My husband golfed on the course the last time we were there with a guest, and after they were done, the guest asked to play a different course the next day. We laughed, saying you have to find another island to play another golf course, that is the only one on the island. Our guest seriously considered doing that, ultimately deciding it was too pricey an endeavor. Also, I thought they only played 9 holes they were done so fast, but they said they did 18, next time he said they would walk it. I can't fathom bringing your own clubs for a course that is somewhat lackluster, but I have to say I see more people every year golfing on the course. Also saw workers trimming weeds and such every day, too. There is so much sand on the course, watering doesn't do much good.

As Pat said "it is what it is". If you are content with just getting out there and playing a fun round it works, try teeing off around 8:00 am and head over to Pineapple Pete's for lunch!

If you are a more serious golfer, take the ferry over to Anguilla and play the course over there, I hear it is very nice with full amenities. Costly though, I hear it is about $200 for the round!

Can I ask who owns the Golf Course - private or Gov't?

The Mullet Bay Golf Course is not what is use to be when I use to work there 30 years ago , however they are doing there best . I don't play Golf (look at it at times on the T.V). They do have a Water Trunk that comes every week , and the cost for Golfing is not close to Anguilla. A lot of local guys do play regular on the course and what I meant by local guys is people with good position where they work and have money. Hence no need to down grade the Course, thanks. This is our Island.

Sorry Kenny I didn't mean to offend you, I was not down grading the golf course. We played a round once about 5 years ago and the gentleman there told us they were going to be changing a few things and it still looks the same to me. I chose the wrong word when I said fix.

Agree, the course is a good fun course, beautiful stretches by the lagoon. Good to play a cheap round at least once a week while I am there.

When we bought at Port de Plaisance back in the early 90's - part of the draw was that they were going to build a pro golf course and it would be the first course built on 2 separate countries. It was going to attract all first rate pro golfers. Needless to say, we're still waiting.
My Dad played Mullet back in the early 90's and he enjoyed it.
