How close to your arrival one still can order grocery delivery to the boat? We will be arriving this Sat., but still not sure how many people will be coming. Anybody has experience ordering groceries last minute?

I've ordered this close, but not any closer. That was with Bobby's.

Better to just place the order and add stuff later.

Yes, we've also placed orders the same week as our arrival, but I would stick with the must haves if you wait too late in the week i.e. BEER, Rum and charcoal for the meat you're probably deep freezing right now! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/toast.gif" alt="" />

Anyone ever pick-up provisioning at Cost u less on St Thomas? And hand carried items on ferry... it doesn't sound like fun but maybe for a few things.

We've shopped at Cost U Less many times and there is nothing there you can't get at RiteWay or Cash & Carry. Some of the prices on frozen prepared foods (chicken nuggets, etc.) are cheaper. Food Center and Gourmet Gallery on STT do have some US & Belgian craft beers that I have not seen in the BVI. But, worth the hassle? Not for me.

Cheers, RickG

A week or two ago, someone commented about seeing significantly different prices in the branch Rite-Way stores versus their online order form. They said something like a 50% difference. Have any of you all noticed that? I have been thinking about pre-ordering my resupplies and having pickup date and times on there to try and avoid the price hike.

My experience with both Rite-Way and Bobby's is they do NOT charge what they show online. They charge the in store price when they put the order together.

I don't think Riteway or Bobbys update the online order pricing very often. I didn't look at Riteways, but Bobbys has this posted on their site "** PRICING NOTE **

We try to keep our on-line Static Price Lists up to date. Prices are subject to change without notice. All orders are processed at our Computerized Scanning POS System at the time of delivery and the final amount rung up then is what is finally billed to you."

Just in case it might be useful to somebody else: we finally placed our order with Rite-Way on Wed. night for Sat morning delivery. Van appeared right at 10 am with almost everything delivered (looks like they were out of 1 or 2 items, since there were no charge for those). Overall saved us whole day, since we were able to sail right away rather than going to the store and waste precious time there). Prices however were the same as on-line, don't know how they relate to the store ones.

Can you remind me if you get any sort of email confirmation back from Riteway after you place your order? We used them last year and just ordered again for our upcoming trip but received no confirmation they received the order. Can't remember if we got one last year.

I don't think we did. My wife did the order, so I cannot be sure, but I recall asking her about e-mail confirmation and the only one we got was from the website upon the ordering. Everything went OK however.
