We are going to get to JVD a little later than I wanted and am thinking of spending 1 night in Little Harbor, and one night in Great Harbour.

The plan is to sail from Marina Cay and get to Monkey point early in the morning. The sail from MP to Diamond Cay by lunchtime and hike over to the bubbling pools. We probably wont get going again until mid afternoon.

As little Harbor always seems to be somewhat less popular, I am planning on staying there the first night then staying in GH the next night. Am I right in assuming I have a much better chance of grabbing a mooring in LH than GH?

42 days and counting! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/band.gif" alt="" />

Little Harbour is less popular, but we've never had a problem getting a ball in Great Harbour arriving mid-afternoon, even in season.

This is doable. A couple of thoughts for you.

Monkey Point is a great Snorkel area. If you get there early, you can get a ball right up close to the snorkel area. If not, just off to the N is White Bay (not that White Bay). There are balls there too. Just dink over from there and tie up your dingy on the line provided in the snorkel area.

It's about 8 nm to Diamond Cay from MP. Foxy's Taboo in East End (Diamond Cay) has a dinghy dock. There are some balls to the NE fairly close to it. Assuming you'll be there around 1-2p or so (after visiting MP) it's not likely there will be a big crowd there. From the dingy dock to the Bubbly Pool is a short hike of about 10-15 minutes for adults.

The good part is that Little Harbor is literally just around the corner from the spot you will have visited the Bubbly Pool from .... maybe a 15-20 minute motor.

It's quiet there. Its also a well protected spot from swell coming from just about any direction. Keep in mind that you get a free ball if you eat at Abe's, at least we did last year in June. There are two or three balls within less than 100 yards of Abe's dingy dock. Abe will also drive you over to Great Harbor if you want to go to Foxy's over there and you should. Sydney's is right across the harbor and I think he give's free internet to eat at his place. Both great eateries. There's a little store at Sydney's. Call and ask what their deals are. Abe's has great Lobster (not cheap)and a cool honor bar.

The point is you can stay on a ball 2 nights if you want to visit JVD for that amount of time in the quieter Little Harbor and still access everything over at great Harbor. If you like to party though, Great Harbor is your place.

Sydneys offers a free dinner to the captain. Some limits may apply. Ie minimum number of guests. Sydneys also has a great honour bar. Harris next door may provide a free mooring.

Dlucerne....that's a great plan. We do that every time. This way we avoid the rush for moorings in Great Harbour. Also, GH is quite open and can rock and roll at night but LH is always smooth. The owners there are all accommodating about giving rides or calling cabs, etc. We stay there 2 nights and visit Sandy Cay and Diamond Cay/Bubbly pool from there and get a ride over to Great Harbor and White Bay so we don't worry about the tight conditions inside the reef on White Bay as well. And don't worry about drinking and dinghy-ing.

It's not real scenic and there is no real beach, but LH is strategically located, extremely well protected and the lobsters are superb.
