I checked the AA and USAir sites yesterday. For a June 27 departure there were no seats on USAir and the lowest price for AA was over $700 SXM-MIA-MCO. On June 25 USAir still had no seats and the AA flight was $230. $500 for the privilege of departing on Saturday.

I'm confused, are you talking about booking a one way trip home and you're already on island? I always thought that you couldn't get on a plane without a return ticket.

We booked two one way fares last year on the same airline (JB) and they absolutely needed to see our return flight documentation....

Our best deal down was on Delta. We start out in WA and I didn't want to bore people with all the details.

I found in booking our flights on US Airways, that there were no seats available online, but when I called, I was told there were definitely seats available. I was told to go ahead and purchase the tickets, then to go back in and select my seats. That worked for me. Before I actually purchased the tickets, I couldn't look at available seats.

OK, I still don't understand your post, you are on island, and were able to book a one way ticket and did not have a return flight booked when you left the US? That was my question.

We are going in June and got AA out of MCO through Miami for 336 round trip. I also tried to book straight through from Miami and it was TWICE as much. It was so cheap from Orlando that we booked ANOTHER 10 days in SXM in July! Love cheap airfare! No weekends though, only weekdays.

I am not on SXM. At the time I booked my flight to the island I was unsure how long I was staying so I could not book round trip. I did the PDX-SXM booking because Delta was offering the flight for $231 and I was pretty sure that I couldn't do better if I waited.

OK, sorry for the confusion. I was just surprised you were just now booking a return for June, since you already had the other half of the trip booked.

We fly out of Tampa and can usually find r/t fares close to (and sometimes less) than $300. I use the "see calendar of lowest fares" option on matrix.itasoftware.com. It finds the lowest fares for the month based on your selected length of stay.
