Old and New Finds in the BVI>

We just returned from a very short two weeks at Fort Recovery. Once again Fort Recovery provided a superior venue for exploring Tortola with all the local conveniences.

Here is a short report on our experiences in the local restaurants.

Chef/owner Davide once again was awesome at Brandywine. It is worth taking one pair of long pants.

Eclipse always shines.

Tamarind Club was a very nice surprise in the quality of food. Their new chef is super. I think she was the chef at Marina Cay for some time.

April and John are the true institution of Tortola at Spaghetti Junction. Don’t for a minute think of this establishment as only spaghetti. Gourmet Italian is what you will find.

Le Cabanon and chef George was once again a top choice.

Paloma and Scott at the Dove provided a very entertaining champagne happy hour and a brilliant dinner.

Lunch at the Virgin Queen and Roti Palace are a must for local fare.

Speaking of “local fare”, don’t miss Coco Plum or Palm’s Delight

De Loose Mongoose has great fish and chips.

Best burgers are at Nicoles in Brewers Bay

Comfort food at Jolly Roger.

BEST NEW FINDS:

Iris’s on Fahey Hill. This is a little yellow house atop Fahey Hill east of Huntums Ghut Road. She has 4 tables for lunch and dinner on her patio and serves fabulous pork chop, conch, fish, and a few other local dishes. For the adventuresome-don’t miss this treat.

Jean Luc, owner of the French Bakery, La Baguette, has just opened a French deli across the street from Tico on the entry road to the Moorings. His choice of meats, cheese, and pastries rivals most Paris delis. Sandwiches and wine TO GO.

Myett’s food and Happy Hour with KapEye was a treat every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Especially with Malcolm and Glen playing backup.

Now do see why 2 weeks are just not enough. Think of all the great places we missed.
