that's just it.the point of pictures is to refresh my memory years later. years from now I won't be able to remember which trip was which.. what was happening on each trip if they blur together with similar clothing.

That's why you write a detailed trip report.

Getting rid of the khaki pants, jeans and brown shorts will be a start. Switch to linen shorts.

well this whole spiel just became moot. Macy's has garbage. The over priced tommybahamas are freaking UGLY....not that I'd pay $85 for a shirt anyway....but there was NOTHING there. I did find a pair of white linen pants for $28....to match my tan ones... so SIGH.. I may have to shop on island.....how's the selection at the shipwreck shop or little place next to the pelideli? I forget...

Just curious but...how often do you plan on wearing long pants? I hardly ever, with the exception of the finer restaurants, wear long pants when we visit in January and I assume it is hotter in July than January???? Don't overthink the whole thing, just go and have a good time!

I'm taking two pair. one white one tan... in case we'd like a nice dinner or 3.. I'm thinking one pair for the hideaway.... I'm open to other suggestions

I agree that long pants are appropriate at the nicer restaurants. My husband almost always wears them in Grand Case, and if you go to Bajatzu or one of the other indoor restaurants in Maho, the air conditioning will freeze you out if you're not wearing long pants!

Lots of people don't, though.

We went to Bajatzu this time and I wore a short, sleeveless sundress and I wasn't cold.. Eric never takes long pants these days. It's really not necessary anywhere that we go.

It's been a couple of years since I've been there, so maybe it's not as cold as it used to be. David's long pants are linen drawstrings, so still beachy and comfortable.

Linen pants and a long sleeve linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up are in my opinion the best look for men. The Tommy Bahama shirts are best left on the hangars in the store. However most important is that you are comfortable in what you wear.

Oh well each to his own. I love the way the restaurant owners in Grand Case look in their well fitting jeans and stylish interesting long sleeved shirts. Thibeault/ Amauray/ Stephane in Grand Case and Bruno at Dreams you rock!

Take those long linen pants to a seamstress and has them made into shorts. At least one of them as you really don't need two long pants. But to each his own.

I'm not really built for well fitting jeans. It's like putting denim on a cupcake. (not to mention the heat) and chuck-it's easy.. the stores I've looked in didn't have anything I want. My friend has a vintage clothing store. I'm sure I could pick up a couple new ultra lounge-ish island prints....thinkTIKI, think fire knife dancer,,, think chilling. OR SHOP WHEN I GET THERE! THat's the ticket...

by the way.. the whole idea of 'trip reports' is new to me, sort of. Years ago, I started writing myself post cards just to kill time in airports..they were pretty sparse and bare to fit the space of a card, but they've evolved since then, mostly in restaurant and hotel reviews....the full-fledged 'trip reports' wouldn't be for public consumption, since they're for ME... if you catch my drift. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" />

LBI2XM I'm still one of the people who likes to wear a tie (I've given up on suits) to the theater. I don't always, but it's what I prefer. I like giving things a sense of occasion. Not decorum-that's different. a few years ago, on a pontoon back from Marigot, the rain kicked up and since it was such a nice, warm rain, I kind of hung outside the awning despite the long pants and resort shirt. I dried fast in the Red Piano.

Long pants are things that hide a middle-aged man's less than attractive furry legs in a dining situation. And they provide an illusion of 'classy.' If I'm spending a couple of thousand dollars on a getaway I'd rather take a vacation from the slob I am at home too.
