Relaxation is what it’s all about on our vacations. We used to try to do everything and see everything when we were younger. Now we just relax and take it easy, play around in the warm water, eat lunch at the beach bar and skip dinner altogether or just eat something very informal at our condo.

As a result, our trip report is pretty boring: get up, eat some yogurt, bread and cheese for breakfast, go to the beach, have ribs and/or chicken from the Perch, close down the beach and go back to the room and read after some Etna Ice Cream. Maybe make a trip down the hill to the Casino. Repeat. We did find that the menu at the Perch has changed since last year. They did have a nice red cabbage Cole slaw which has been replaced by more pedestrian cole slaw. In addition the baked potato has been replaced with French fries. We usually double up on the Cole slaw and skip the Fries.

We did go shopping at the new Grand Marche in Cole Bay near the Port D’ Plaisance. Parking was better than the one near Phillipsburg. Selection seemed a little less complete but plenty good for our needs.

We really have gone out to dinner once in the last week.

Today we had to move to our second room at Pelican. We’re scheduled for an all day boat trip tomorrow so we decided to take it easy today and just do a little exploring and go out to lunch. We thought we would check out the Westin. In the process, we stumbled across their Sunday Brunch. Now Gretchen wants to go back again before we leave.

This is not a cheap lunch at $48 per person but it compares favorably with most any buffet brunch that we have had. We are out on the deck overlooking the infinity pool. There were serving stations there with red potatoes, Chicken Milano, Pork filets, Seafood Paella, Grouper Filets, Asparagus in sauce, boiled peppers, Caribbean Pepper Steak, Dim Sum, Carved Tuna and carved roast beef. We enjoyed that and then discovered the indoor serving stations: fruit, salads, ice cream, breakfast sausage, breakfast potatoes, scrambled eggs, more hot foods I had no appetite to look at, a sushi bar, shrimp, other seafood, salads, pstries, desserts, juices, etc. It also included champagne or Mimosa.

As much as we hated to see the way the construction was carried out, and as industrial as the resort looks from the land side, it really is quite nice on the inside and from the water.

The casino was small with only 3 or 4 table game setups and they were all closed at 3:00 on Sunday afternoon. Only slots were available. Finding your way in from the parking garage can be a minor challenge and the helpful employee who guided us on our way when we asked at the stairwell “How do you get to the restaurant” made us feel quite at home. We did find, however, that he guided us “the long way” and not through the casino.

We have found that we can get Wi-fi in our room at the Pelican in the lower B building. They have actually done a pretty good job of putting Access Points and Antennas around the pool area and along the Tennis Courts. The secret is putting your laptop up in the bedroom window or getting an extension antenna.
