Just back from 2 weeks in BVI and thought that I would post some feedback.
Started with a week on Tortola staying in the Villa Diamante - which was outstanding providing you had a 4WD vehicle and were not easily scared by a very steep and narrow mountain access road! Explored most of Tortola during this time and so knew which parts of the main island we wanted to see again from the water during the second week (ie Sopers Hole and Marina Quay). Saw enough of the Bomba Shack in daylight to know that we (3 senior couples) did not want to be there for a full moon party! Cane Garden Bay, Long Bay Beach and Trellis Bay were all very nice. Next time will know that there is overnight accommodation available at Trellis Bay (The Loose Mongoose)literally within walking distance from the airport. Enjoyed good food at Burts, Spaghetti Junction, Sebastians and a great lunchtime pizza at the Virgin Queen in downtown Tortola.
We then chartered a 46 foot Bavaria from Horizon at Nanny Quay. Both Horizon and the boat were excellent. Contrary to some reports, they did not object to us going to Anegada, providing we checked in with them regarding weather the night before. Due to shortage of time we did not go in the end. The mooring buoy system around the islands is excellent and good value at $25 for a worry free night when it is blowing 20 knts.
Started out overnighting at Norman Island and decided to give Willy T's a miss as it seemed to be a marine version of the Bomba Shack when we dinghied past for a look see. Next night at Sopers Hole - not as rural as the outlying islands but lots of character and outstanding shore facilities. T shirts selling for $24-25 elsewhere were only two for $10 here!
Then on to Jost Van Duke. Avoided Great Harbour because they have no mooring buoys and spent the first night at Little Harbour. Checked out Sidney's Peace and Love late afternoon - Sidney is obviously a good salesman - but his drinks were too expensive so he did not get us back for dinner and we BBQ'd on board instead. I say pass on Little Harbour. Next day we moved around around the corner to Diamond Quay - which was superb. Hiked in and found the Bubbly Pool where the waves wash into a small swimming hole. Foxy's Taboo provided great dinner but he is not going to get many customers until he installs a decent dinghy dock which is much lower than the existing facility. Doing the mountain goat act climbing into a dinghy in the dark after dinner is not fun. I wonder if he has been told about this?
On to Pussers at Marina Quay - a great moorage and an excellent dinner spot.
Then over to the marina at Spanish Town on Virgin Gorda. The marina was OK but Spanish Town was very disapointing - we wont go back there! Then up to VG North Sound and the Bitter End YC. Wow.....one of the most spectacular places I have seen anywhere in the world. We will go back to revisit the BEYC and explore other resorts in the Sound. Simply stunning! Our last night was at Cooper Island which was also excellent. Really enjoyed the beach and snorkeling here.
In summary, we will definitely be back one day. Next time we will probably pass on the week onshore on Tortola - although very well worth while doing once - and will concentrate on a bare boat charter back to VG and the other islands off the east side of Tortola. A great vacation.
I would add a picture or two if I only knew how!!
