Day 5

Took the dinghy and a paddle board to Diamond Reef for snorkeling. Simply beautiful! We saw a couple of jellyfish, had a couple of minor stings that subsided after a few minutes. We saw several barracuda, trigger fish, parrot fish, a fish that looked like a rotting ear of corn, and even a Purple and Gold "LSU Fish". Once back at Scrub we enjoyed the upper pool, had lunch at The restaurant there, Tiera Tiera, Mahi sandwich and jerk chicken wrap, delicious. After lunch we left the kids in the pool and caught a ride to North Beach. Took a very nice nap under the Seagape tree listening to the waves roll in. Caught a ride back to the marina and found the kids napping as well. Jumped back in the dinghy and headed to Cam Bay for snorkeling and beach exploring. Unfortunately there was a significant amount of decaying seaweed on the beach which turned us away from exploring the beach. We set anchor in a sandy spot near a permanently moored small private sailboat and snorkeled. Lots of grass there, medium visibility, I was hoping to see a turtle because of the grass but no luck. We did see a doormat sized stingray, a sea cucumber, conchs, more LSU Fish. We dinghied back to Mardi Gras picked up 2 who didn't go to Cam Bay and dinghied over to Marina Cay, explored the island, noticed what appears to be some original construction. Dinghied back to Mardi Gras. We met up with our new friends Lewis and Marina. Took showers on the boat because line for showers was too long, had never seen that before. Prepared dinner, crawfish étouffée and invited Kurt to come join us. We just love listening to him. The sky has been very clear, no Sahara Dust. We fished on the dock at scrub but could not get any bites.

A fish that looked like a rotting ear of corn... hmm.. trying to figure out what that could be.

Diamond Reef is on our list for May - we were going to hit it up this past year and I had no takers on the boat <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/cloud.gif" alt="" />

Keep the posts coming! Serious DIF setting in since we're only two months from our land-based Cat Fat trip.

Where is Diamond Reef? Is it a good dive spot as well.

Already planning June trip...

Thanks,
Rick

Diamond reef is just NNW of Marina Cay. There's a blue dinghy line for it as well as two yellow NPT balls. Nice dive too.

If you don't have the dive guide yet, you should pick it up. It lists all the sites with detailed diagrams.

You can get it from Frank - http://www.angelinacat.com/SALES.htm

I bet those LSU fish are fast, aggressive, and dominate over the other ones <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" />

Thanks Matt. Funny, turns out we were there this past June and our friends dove. Just didn't know what it was called!
