It has been said that there is no such thing as an adult nudist, just aging children. Honoring that principle, Avalon Resort held its first annual Prom last night. The lodge was decorated in crape paper with large banners done on brown paper reading “Avalon High” and “Class of 2008”. As you entered the dinning room, the sign read “cafeteria”.

The night started with the Prom dinner, and the server wore the traditional high school cafeteria hair net and a name tag reading “Lunch Lady”. Prime rib was on the menu, and everyone was checking out the “undress” of everyone else. For the gentlemen, bow ties and cummerbunds were the norm, though many had on cuffs as well, and two had their top hats. One natty gentleman wore crocs on his feet with spats. The ladies were well accessorized with all the glitzy jewelry that goes with nothing. Wrist corsages were prominent for obvious reasons. Hair and make-up were the norm, and we males were treated to as gorgeous bevy of ladies ever assembled.

Once we had all finished our short cake, and quaffed several bottles of wine, a station was set up for prom pictures. A blue back drop with a flowered arch was set up to capture the “classic” prom night picture. Mother and dad will be so proud!

At 8:30 the dance commenced with Jim Corly as the DJ. He immediately announced that should things get out of control, the lights will be brought up, and the offending students sent home, and their parents notified! Later he brandished a yard stick that had to pass between dances lest they dance too close! Oddly enough, this was all greeted with laughter. Soon the students of Avalon High were boogying to the beat of several generations with a higher proportion of slow dances than the norm. Of course the electric slide and several other line dances were offered up. The conga line for the “Locomotion” wound its way through the entire gym, oh, I mean lodge.

Everyone placed their names on a blue or pink piece of paper and three ladies were princesses and three gentlemen were princes to complete the court for the King and Queen, each with a crown. The queen also received roses as befitting her royal dignity.

After the prom, people retired to the indoor pool for an “all-night” prom party. In short, it was just like your high school prom, save that many arrived in golf carts instead of limousines, and this time, we were the “cool” kids!
