I've recently heard about a charter company that does not allow scuba diving from their boats. I've never come across this before. Has anyone else run into this restriction?

What company is that? Never heard of this restriction before at all.

Damage from the tanks being carelessly used is probably the reason. Gel coat chips are expensive to repair.

I'm not sure if it's concern about gelcoat chips or a restriction imposed by the insurance company. I'm going to try to find out. I carry dive insurance, and I've never chipped any gelcoat before. Perhaps I'm more careful than others.

Festiva Charters (crewed boats) do not allow scuba diving, as I found out a few years ago. I asked in the office why it was discontinued, was there some sort of incident? She smiled, but didn't respond. I haven't heard anything about bareboat charters not allowing scuba tanks on board, but could be possible. I always take scuba tanks on my Voyage Charters. Nothing has ever been said (so far).

In the 90s, I remember the charter company saying , you were correct in asking permission to take tanks, then watching and approving the location and type of tank rack.

Since then, no companys have had concerns. They appear to help you choose the dive store to rent from. I guess this part is helpful if they had seen past rental equipment no-shows from one particular dive store.

I don't think it is an insurance issue, at least it has never come up with our boats, but I like the policy. Too many chips and dings with tanks.

The rust from the tank rack was a complaint I always had

In regards to Festiva not allowing SCUBA, that is not the case. Guy and Caz are dive masters and typically take out the scuba groups.

Yes, rust, next time I will bring a little bottle of CLR.
