What a great resort! The honest truth is we have nothing negative or critical to say. The condo, pools, clubhouse, restaurant, disco, and upper level pool were all as advertised on their website, and we'll be back!
As for the "current controversy", it's tough to know what to say. We are founding AANR members at Mira Vista Resort in Tucson, and there just doesn't seem to be much difference between the two places other than the obvious ones of size and relative cost/scale. The music played all day poolside, the volleyball pool was full, the servers came around to take drink orders, happy hour was at 4 PM, the dinner food was good, and people stood around in the water chatting....
20 years ago we took our children on "camping trips" at the more rustic nudist clubs. We didn't have the $$$ to go to "resorts", but the kids are gone and now we have $$$....Like most other late 40 somethings, we're glad that there aren't children running around when we're drinking naked at the pool. We saw a few kids at Caliente, and sometimes there are a few kids at Mira Vista.
Caliente and Mira Vista both have bars/dances/clubhouses. No one under age 21 is allowed in, and most of the patrons are naked or half clothed and drinking alcohol. Both resorts have lifestylers (swingers), 99% of whom are discrete. We've now been at the Caliente upper level pool at 2 AM on a Saturday night, and it wasn't much different from Mira Vista's 60 person hot tub at 2 AM on a Saturday night. People were being discrete, but a "sensitive" person looking for something to complain about (are there really people like that?) would be very successful. The real parties were behind closed doors.....
Nudism will ALWAYS have an uphill fight in the media. Sex and controversy sells. Just the word "NUDE" sells. Caliente is NOT like the Hedo's or Desire's. (We've been there) They DO need to sell food and alcohol and disco cover charges to survive. Thirty somethings on camping trips with their kids won't cover the costs. And the people looking for something to be offended about will ALWAYS be successful....
