Spice is a 51 foot Sloop berthed in the Marina at Leverick Bay and very capably operated by a young couple-Eva from Sweden and Joe from Canada. We had the good fortune to sail on a day when the conditions were just right and we were under sail for the whole trip to Anegada and back except for getting in and out of docking. What a relaxing trip with the sounds of the wind on the sails and the vessel cutting through the water just below us. There were only 4 guest that day so we had lots of room to spread out although Eva and Joe advised they seldom take more than 6 but can handle asmany as 12 in a group. They were wonderful sailors and hosts. Joe advised he had been sailing as far back as he can remember as his parents were into racing sailboats. The sail to Anegada takes about 2 hours and upon arrival we were taken by cab(open back truck with benches)to the other side of the Island and Loblolly Bay. We were dropped off and given a briefing about snorkeling and lunch. The facilities there in this out of the way beautiful spot were very good with a large covered dining area. The menu is limited and on the blackboard and you can order and tell the folks what time you want to eat and when you come up from the beach at your time --lunch is ready to be served. The people were very friendly and the service very good. . Marie ordered BBQ Ribs and I had BBQ Chicken both of which came with appropriate go-withs and were excellent. There are beach huts and chairs on the beach for guests use and the snorkeling was very good. Cab fare was $6 per person round trip and lunch is on your own. We had 3 hours there as promised and then back to the Hotel side where we boarded spice and began a wonderful sail home.
We both recommend the trip highly and will do it again when we return next year. For more info www.spicebvi.com
We spent an afternoon on the beach at Mahoe Bay in front of all of the beautiful villas that have been built there and on the hill above. The beach is beautiful, and protected by reefs that provide excellent snorkeling. There is not a lot of shade if that is a concern although there are a couple of seagrape large enough to be used for that purpose. We met a number of vacationers on the beach and were priveleged to be invited to look at Loblolly and Satori Villas. This is where we hope to bring our family next year. The Mango Bay Resort and Mahoe bay area beach and Villas are a delightful spot to spend a family vacation--in our opinion offering outstanding views, a beautiful beach, great snorkeling just offshore, and villas with a pool, ac bedrooms, and all the other amenities one could ask for. In planning our recent 12 day BVI vacation, we were helped greatly by information from this forum and many of y'all. It is our hope that that the opinions we have shared in these 4 reports will be of help to some of you now planning your trip. If anyone should have any specific questions please feel free to fire away.
