Morning arrives with another spectacular day in store,....not a drop of rain the entire two weeks we were there and glorious warm days. ...we will have very little wind to sail again today ...oh well.

Sitting in the cockpit enjoying my coffee I notice a group of people up the dock with back packs wringing out clothing and hanging them on surrounding trees ...a large group,of Syrian refugees have just landed.,some were on their cell phone assumedly reporting back to others back home that they had made it .They were rejoicing and were very happy to be safe. We,talked with one young man who told us his story.

42 of them left the Turkish coast in the cover of darkness and did a 4 hour passage in a black inflatable raft which was taking on water badly .Most of the group are family, mainly in their 20s and 30s. a couple of pregnant women and a few babies. He was a medical doctor back in Syria and said they fled their war torn town with only a back pack, a cell phone and all the money they had. They were headed to find the police station where they would claim refugee status.

Their ultimate goal is to make it to Germany where they hope to start a new life and become employed . He shared that most of the group are young professionals.

it was incredible to see this in person. Its one thing to read about current world events and quite another to be witness to it. Captain Manzole the harbour master would tell us later that this happens everyday in this small harbour....
heartbreaking to think about what they have endured but they are now safe .

A last morning stroll around this magical place then off the dock we go...goodbye Vathi.

The research work and the stone wall(s) reconstruction looks very interesting in Knidos. Imagine what it looked like way back in the day! Great photo's Kim!!
