I did something I have never done before in 20 years of sailing the BVI. Just my wife and I went down. It was a very relaxing trip only having two of us and really simplified many things. We had no place to go and nothing to see!!! I liked it!!!! Day 1 we slept aboard at Sopers and watched the Super bowl at Pussers. Day 2 we had intended to clear out of the BVI and spend sometime on the north side of St John however there was a large north swell running. Instead we did some shopping for food and picked up one of the great chickens from the Harbor market and headed out to the Drake channel with no destination. We had never had the pleasure of a meal at Brandywine and around 2 pm decided why not and called and made a reservation. We anchored in Brandywine bay for the night. Just a bit of surge now and then. It would be a great place to spend the night if the main road was not so close. That makes it a bit noisy and detracts some from the atmosphere. Dinner at Brandywine was outstanding . You get what you pay for and a meal is not cheap but it’s a dining experience. David is a great host! Day 3 we headed up to Ginger Island to dive Gingers back side however the North Swell was more then my wife wanted for diving. She is a calm seas diver so we made a left and headed to the dogs figuring we could dive the airplane at George Dog. The wind picked up a bit however from the ENE and the dive site was rough. The other dives sites were taken out by the north swell. Did a 180 and headed back down the channel and dived the Fearless off great harbor at Peter. The Fearless is almost always a easy dive regardless of wind or sea conditions. From there we picked up a overnight Mooring outside the Bight past the caves. With a strong ENE wind it’s a very calm anchorage and you avoid some of the Bight madness. We took the dingy in to the WillyT for dinner and said hello to Al. The WillyT was very quiet that night however the Tuna was great as always and the prices hard to beat. Day 4 the North swell calmed down so we cleared out of the BVI at Sopers and cleared in at Cruise Bay. Both customs at Sopers and Cruise was painless and quick. Wandered around Cruz for a bit and had lunch and then headed to Cinnamon Bay. This is one of my favorite North Side anchorages. We had it to ourselves and took a long swim. Discovered there are some incredible Villas at the waters edge in the western bay you don’t notice unless you swim right up. Ate on the boat that night finishing of the last of the Harbor market chicken. Day 5 we made a quick morning dive at a spot I love that shall remain secret and then headed the long way around to Coral Bay. Anchored and headed in to walk around and have lunch at Skinny legs. We had intended to go back that evening for music however the afternoon of doing nothing wore us out so much we decided to spend the evening on the boat doing nothing also. Met a nice couple we talked with a bit sailing a Lagoon 410 around the world from Australia. There were from Argentina. That said they were not really sailors however were having a great time!!!!!! Day 6 we headed back to the BVI and did a quick dive at Angelfish reef. This is a excellent dive for newer divers and always entertains. We cleared back in at Sopers and flipped a coin and turned right leaving Sopers. The North Swell was back again so we ended up at picking up a ball off Foxy’s Taboo. From the Mooring you could watch and hear the huge surf breaking on the North side of Jost. The bubbly pool I am sure was really rocking however once again we exhausted ourselves doing nothing and remained on the boat. Dinner was grilled steak we picked up at Cruz bay that was excellent. Day 7 was sadly back to Sopers to turn the boat in and head home. The boat performed great all week and our total fuel consumption was 10.9 gallons! The weather at night was so cool we used blankets and never turned the AC on! I can’t say again how relaxing going with just the two of us was and having absolutely no plans or places to go. Already thinking about when I can do it again!!!!!!!!
