Hey everybody. We are regular St. John visitors and have been to the BVI on day charters multiple times. We're going on a cruise this winter and bringing the kids, and we have a stop on Tortola. The time in port is kind of weird - 7am-3pm. Normally I'd try to get over to Jost/White Bay, but I'm not sure those hours allow for adequate time.

Given those hours in port, what would you recommend we do? Our kids are 4 and 6 year old boys. Trip is in February (winter surf could be an issue), so we need a calmer beach. Preferably one with some access to food and drink.

Thanks in advance!

Brewers Bay - Second it! The other option is to grab some picnic supplies in Road Town and head to Smugglers for a laid back day, you could stop in Soper's Hole to explore if the boys get restless or Fish and Lime for a cocktail on the water before you go back on the cruise ship. Enjoy!

I would second Brewers Bay. Not overwhelmed with cruise ship people (yet) and Nicole makes great burgers. Also Josiah's Bay. No cruise ship people, good food at Naomi's and the best sand castle sand in the BVI. Just keep the kids in shallow water. The currents at Josiah's can be dangerous.

See if they have an excursion to Pirates on Norman (Treasure Island)
Food, beach and a hiking trail to spy glass hill.
They also sell pirate bandanas and other goodies for the kids.

sounds like a lovely day, this is the type of thing we do on cruises. We never book the ship's shore excursions.

Does Brewers Bay offer beach chair/umbrella rentals?

Thanks for the suggestions - I'll look into all of them. Much appreciated.
