We have spent 2 or 3 nights at Cooper Island on mooring ball in the past... was wondering if there is any hiking trails at all on the island, just to walk around and take in some of the surrounding views. Last time there I looked around off both ends of the beach but did not see any trails leading up onto the surrounding hills. May be back there for a night or two in Jan / early Feb, and thought I would ask this question before our trip-

I always thought it was off limits unless you're staying on the island.

Ya..last time we were there we walked to the ends of the "beach area "'on both ends and there are private property signs....we also love the off the beaten path places so look for adventure on every island..

Check out salt if weather is right....so cool <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

We tried it...once. the private property holders on the island do not welcome hikers. There is this one little guy at the top of the hill that will pop out of his hut and defend his turf.
It was not this way before the island resort got big.

Hop in your dink on a calm day and head over to Salt.

Good to know these details.... We have dingy over to salt from cooper in the past and enjoy exploring there. I enjoy walking up to the hill top behind the old house and taking in the view. May just do that again on this trip.

We stayed at Cooper for 5 nights a few years ago. We enjoy taking walks and got a little bit of "island fever" with no place to walk except from one end of the resort to the other.
We loved the resort and did a lot of snorkeling off the beach and with the dive operation.

In 92 , I remember walking on a real trail located behind the ?restaurant? , it was switch back mostly dirt, and led to the top, with the great view, along the way where shacks really., I got the impression of poor people living in em. At somepoint, at our 96 or 04 visit it was all private with fences and gates.

(this description is the best as I can remember)

What about going to the beach as chromis reef, are their trails there ?

For exploring Salt - where is the best place to put the dingy if coming over from Cooper? Is the entire island open for exploring, or are there any areas to avoid?
