Hello Everyone,

I has a few meals at Dreams and then stopped going there. There were issues with the food and wine (cold, not what we ordered, bad tasting rosé) and we also did not like the way we were treated (the staff forgot something on our bill, when we came back they jumped on us, demanded payment in cash, never mentioned that is was their fault and gave us a lousy exchange rate for dollars).

Places change a lot, I would like to know what your recent experiences have been ?

Many thanks

We were at dreams twice about 2 weeks ago. First time there were four of us, next week just my wife and I. Angelique was our waitress the first time, and brought drinks to our chairs, reserved a table by the water for us. Second time, she recognized us and did the same. Very friendly, talked to the manager for a while, really enjoyed it. Food was awesome, and the ice cream was delicious also. (I generally don't find the ice cream on the island very good usually!) No issues with food or pricing. On our list to go back to next time we're on the island.

Honestly, this is about the only negative comments I have heard about Dreams. I have been there two times and never personally had any issues. Overwhelming the reviews are very positive.

I can't comment on the current season but when we visited last January it was first class all the way! The beach service was good..they had our table at the time we requested and the food was wonderful.

It was really a great experience all around and I can't think of anything I'd change except that a table near us at lunch was loud and overbearing.... (An American with a business on the island).

I may have said this before but I dropped my cell phone on the beach as we left and when I called they had found it and held it at the bar for me. Can't say what a relief that was and it demonstrated how awesome the staff is.

Personally, I find it hard to believe it has changed that much but we'll certainly find out in two weeks!

We just returned from the island earlier this month, and spent several days at Dreams during our three week stay. We never experienced anything but the best food, drinks, and service. Bruno is a class act and runs a tight ship, so if you had problems there you should have asked to speak with him; he would have made it right.

As far as the exchange rate for dollars, we always charge to our credit card in Euros on the French side. This guarantees that we get the appropriate exchange rate.

You've posted a couple of scathing reviews of normally well-regarded restaurants recently. Have you had any good experiences that you can share with us?

The times we have been there have always pleased us. Great facility. Food was always as we anticipated.

I hope it wasn't us. We were invited & had two lunches there with Carol & Eric.

Another party of 18 one evening last year as well. All French, all knew the staff. Bruno was off island from what I understood.

Otherwise, not us. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

Oops! And a TTOL gathering at the bar.

Love Dreams...Bruno is the best host ever and knows how to take care of his guests...one of our most memorable island experiences.

We have never had a bad experience at Dreams although I do think the service becomes a little more lax on the rare occasions Bruno is not there as is so often the case, even in the very best of places. No one does it quite as well as the owner, or such is often my experience.

There are things we find outstanding - one being the beach furnishings and the other being the overall quality of the food offerings along with the fact they have had a non-alcoholic beer each time we've been there, and without any negative commentary when ordering it.

The only thing I could possibly find fault with at Dreams is the nature of the beach itself and that's one thing they have no control over, and that said, they rake it and keep it immaculate always.

I would definitely rate Dreams as one of my three favorite beach restaurants, along with the Restaurant at Anse Marcel and the Friars Bay Beach Cafe. Each one of them is special for one reason or another and each of them has their own particular short-falls, but I'd enjoy any one of them right about now, for sure. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

Definitely,

I warmly recommend Layla's beach in Nettle Bay, Thai Savannah and Grill restaurant in Starz Casino, The trattoria in Maho, Rosie's on Mullet Beach.

You may find me very difficult as far as restaurants are.

Bare in mind 2 points, I lived in France or a mile away from France for 40 years, so I know what is to be expected from french cuisine. My baseline is different from someone coming from the USA.

Second, I live in SXM and where a tourist will just try a place once, I eat there many times so it gives a different impression.

Finally, if I asked people about Dreams, it was because I wanted to find out what others had in the way of experience there. I have been back after my initial bad experiences and it was much better, I wanted to check, I am always open to other peoples comments...

Lreserve - It definitely wasn't you that I was referring to. I don't feel it necessary to mention the individual as I'll just take my business elsewhere but as a fellow US citizen I was disappointed at her lack of consideration for other diners.

Anyway, looking forward to a return visit.

We live on the island 6 months a year, and have lunch at Dreams 2-3 times a month. We have not had a bad meal or bad service or a mistake on the bill. We were the Wed. of this week, and although the restaurant was very busy with 4 or 5 tables of more than 14, we were seated immediately, and our wine arrived promptly. The was a bit of a wait for our food, but as we saw the order being taken from one of the large parties as were were seated, we expected a bit of a wait. Lunch at Dreams is an occasion for us, and we enjoy the total experience.

Gee, us loud?? <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Blush.gif" alt="" /> Well, maybe sometimes! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

We've had some really nice days there. As Pat said, the beach isn't the greatest, but we have always thoroughly enjoyed our food and service there.

I don't go there for the beach as it really isn't the greatest choice but the facilities, parking and amenities can't be beat.

We have been long time fan's of Bruno and his restaurants, villa's for years. This place is top notch, even comparing it to the fine French cuisine we had while in Paris!!!! This is right up there, no two ways about it! Bravo Bruno!!!

Sand Gravity, got to love it!
