So! I know this has been discussed many times but.........

We have friends going down next Saturday, and staying at Beachside Villas, and they have friends from France meeting them on the island whom they'd like to have join them for dinner at BSV one night.

They would like very much to do a steak barbecue and called me just now to ask where on the island would they be most apt to get the nicest and freshest fillet mignon or Delmonico steak. I have no clue, but I know, having enjoyed many an incredible steak over the past few trips, they can be easily gotten.

Any ideas as to best recent spots they might try.........I suggested Carrefour but if anyone has a better suggestion from recent experience, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

TY in advance for your suggestions... <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />.

I would recommend Cost u Less. We have never been disappointed with the steaks there. I also saw some decent looking steaks at Super U in Marigot last month. We have never been happy with the steaks at Grand Marche, but they may be better now at Carrefour if they are using a different provider.

I have not seen tenderloin steaks at Super U, (which is not to say they Don't have them) but they have beautiful "cowboy size" rib eyes. And there are no preservatives in the meats from France! Great on a grill!

I also recomend Cost U Less. I've bought several steaks there over the years and never been disappointed. They may even custom cut the steaks for you.

we always found the meat at Cost-U-Less to be much better than Grande Marche. I think that they come from Argentina

Thank you all for your thoughts and suggestions - I've passed them on and hopefully the big barbecue will happen and they'll all be pleased. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

Pat; if you want great steaks Merchants Mart just below Harley Davidson Motor Cycle dealership is where most of the best restaurants get their steaks and other food items. They sell to the public as well.

Again, many thanks for the replies.

We often get our steak at Costco here and find they're usually better than even the custom cut steaks at Stew Leonard's.

I passed the Merchant Mart suggestion on and they know where it's located and plan on checking out both, so again, many thanks to everyone for all the suggestions. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

We Butcher our own meat so we take steaks and Hamburger and pork with us to the island. Have it froze wrap in newspaper and put in cooler. Been doing this for years with no problem getting there with it. Cant beat Ia Corn Fed Beef over Argentian grass fed meat

While we don't butcher it ourselves we often bring our meat choices from home and I did make that suggestion to them. Our friends and theirs are all traveling carry-on only - no checked luggage and just don't have any extra space for a cooler bag and therefore, looking to purchase there. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

Is this on the side street?

Do you know the source country of the beef? Is it fresh or frozen when sold?

Merchant's Market is by Prime Cash and Carry, just behind Harley Davidson, same side of street.
Beef is USDA. Bought from there many times.
Cheers

Thanks Irina, do you know if it arrives fresh (as in a side of beef they have a butcher portion out), or is it frozen and packaged already?

Edit...never mind.....I think after having found this link I know the answer. A large quantity would probably need to be purchased via the salesperson in the office, and then your order is pulled from the warehouse. It's not as if you shop and select visually.

Lesley, thanks! You da man. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Thumbsup.gif" alt="" />
Is there a minimum purchase? Just wondering, as they do state they cater to the restaurant industry.

Hi Dear , the smallest thing is the bag of Shrimp and the Rack of Lamb.
The Steak comes in large plastic covering them complete. No small pieces.

Lesley,

In reading your last comment, I'm wondering if they can go there and ask for six to eight Delmonico steaks an inch thick or however thick they might want them, or do they have to purchase a huge hunk of meat and have it butchered however the store cuts it? They're only going to be there for a week and I think there are only eight people in total if they all eat steak.....
If they have to purchase a huge quantity of meat they couldn't possibly consume, they should probably stick to the Cost u Less or grocery store suggestions. I hate to have them chasing all over at my suggestion but by the same token I want them to be happy. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />
