It's walkable, big hill in between. For the $5 taxi fare each way, wasting valuable barstool time by walking.

This topic has been covered many times before..so a search might offer up some more comments.
One of my favorite parts of visiting JVD is the hike from Great Harbor to White Bay (EDITED - previously wrote Little Harbor for some reason).
I usually poke around Foxy's for a while, because their gift shop is one of the BVIs very best, listen to a song or two if Foxy himself is playing then grab a roadie and head towards White....probably stopping for another roadie (or a water if that's what the body needs) along the way...best pricing and last stop is at Rudy's marketplace I believe....
Then take off the tshirt, cuz it's going to get soaked...and start hiking....any decent flip flops are probably adequate...I've done it barefoot too, but it's hot...You just need to watch out for the taxis...since there are no sidewalks.
If you are in reasonable shape and don't mind sweating a little bit, it's a great little hike, takes maybe 15 minutes to reach top and ten or less to walk down.
Along the way, you'll be rewarded with a spectacular view of white bay. Timing is key here...anytime before or around noon and the photo alone is worth the hike. As the sun sets, the beach gets more and more washed out in photos.
On the way down, and enroute to Soggy, you get the added bonus of visiting Ivans stress free bar...I'd suggest pulling in for another roadie (or water) and checking out the second story patio. Then, if you still think you need to go to Soggy Dollar, walk the beach...you'll have to cross over some rocks via a very short trail...

You're describing the hike from Great Harbour to White Bay, not Great Harbour to Little Harbour - not sure if you were serious about enjoying the hike from GH to LH <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Wink.gif" alt="" />

I saw several groups of people actually making the hike from GH to LH (or the reverse) when we were there for New Year's. I always stopped to offer rides but for whatever reason those crazy people were actually doing it on purpose! LOL

You could travel to the east end of JVD and see the Bubbly Pool .. or hike across the top of the island -- all the way from the Soggy Dollar to Foxy's Taboo (takes about 2.5 to 3 hours).
Other than that, there's isn't much more to see.

For anyone attempting the hike all the way from Soggy to Taboo (or reverse):
1) take at least 2 bottles of water per person 2) flip-flops are a no-no --- sneakers are best 3) take a camera -- the views are awesome 4) you must be in reasonable physical shape. The grades are pretty steep in most of the trek so pace yourself.
We have done the hike 3 times and takes about 2 1/2 to almost 3 hours, depending on how many times you stop for pictures and/or to rest. Our longest time was 2 3/4 hours.
We also take the hike going east from SDB and end up at Foxy's Taboo and from there on over to the Bubbly Pool. After that it is adult beverages and lunch at Taboo and then catch a taxi back.
