We're headed back to OBBR in 12 days and are excited to meet our friends in SXM and particularly at OBBR. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Clapping.gif" alt="" />
We have seen a few posts regarding the seaweed problem at Dawn Beach. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Yikes.gif" alt="" /> The last post we saw said the seaweed has cleared up and is no longer a problem. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/circle.gif" alt="" />

Can anyone give us a recent report on the seaweed condition at Dawn Beach? Thanks! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Wink.gif" alt="" />

We were there on Saturday. There is no more sargassum weed, just a little other weed washing up because of the rough seas.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade but the seaweed can show up at any time. The good news is that Oyster Bay, The Great House and Mr. Busby's have been doing a great job of cleaning up what ends up on the beach. In addition, Oyster Bay has purchased a boom / net to try to catch the seaweed before it ends up on the beach which leads e to believe that they expect this to continue for a time.

While we wre there, 17 days in January, what seaweed that hit the shore was quickly cleaned up. Great service on the beach from both Oyster Bay and Mr. Busby's so I encourage you to patronize these establishments.

Great news! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Clapping.gif" alt="" /> We stay at OBBR and eat at Beau Beau's and Busby's. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/circle.gif" alt="" /> Maybe we'll eat bigger lunches at their establishments! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Kiss.gif" alt="" /> We'll be seeing all of the Dawn Beach gang Feb 13 and remember to look for the couple from Chi-town and the guy wearing the Stanley Cup Champions Chicago Blackhawk's cap!! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Clapping.gif" alt="" />

Sorry to say, today I can see 3 areas of sargassum headed toward the beach. Hopefully the boom will catch them before reaching shore.

The current boom is only marginally effective and the new boom isn't expected until sometime later this year. Sorry I don't remember the date they said it would be in place but at least they are trying to deal with the issue. While we were there the resort had a N/C bus to Orient on one day and a beach party on Orient another.

According to OBBR newsletter, the booms and pumps are suposed to "be in place by March" this year. But you know island time!
