We're considering bringing our teenage children with us this year and need a 2 bedroom unit. RCI has units available at the Towers at Mullet Bay and at Belair Beach Hotel.

I know where they both are and location is not a big factor as we'll have a car. Which resort has nicer rooms and amenities? Is the beach at Belair on Little Bay a good beach for swimming? Which would you choose and why? Thanks for your help.

Good luck on this! And my disclaimer is I am a preconstruction owner at the Towers and love it there.

My thoughts - the Towers is newer but not that much, and the two bedroom two bath units are very spacious, and complete with all the amenities in unit that you could want, including tvs in every bedroom and kitchens complete with dishwashers, stoves w/ovens and refrigerator-freezers with ice makers. The master bedroom has an ensuite bath while the second bedroom has two twin beds made up as a queen and does have its own bath but it's not ensuite. The pool is very nice and it's a short walk - ten minutes tops - to the beach at Mullet Bay. Beyond these two options, there really is nothing there for young people to do. I know someone who gave away a very nice Towers unit because there was little to occupy their teen aged sons time. The views will vary by floor and IMO the two bedrooms with an 09 designation have the best views.

The Belair is very nice and every unit has either a pool level or ocean view as I recall. The units themselves are nice but the second bedroom is very small and the kitchens are not as fully equipped as are the ones at the Towers. The property itself does have a restaurant and a store along with a pool and is directly on the beach which to me would be a plus and it is next door to Divi which has more amenities and beach, too.

Tough call and obviously, I'd opt for the Towers but at either place I think you will be happy. Towers is a nice property to come home to after a busy day but I think Belair probably has more to keep the teens happy, and the truth is, if they aren't happy, you probably won't be either.

We own @ Belair so are naturally biased, but I think Pat did an excellent job of summarizing both places and I agree that you will be pleased with either facility.

Strayed at the Belair once in '99. Other couple that went with up refused to sleep in the second bedroom because of the two twin bed arrangement. They slept on the hide a bed couch instead. Unit was Ok and met our needs. Did find it was far away from where we wanted to spend time and required driving to every where we wanted to go. Nice water front view and beach was just OK. Never went swimming there but went elsewhere to beach and swim. Rather small pool and had to get there early to get a place on the deck that stayed in the sun. Nothing special about the resort but good as a home base if you know you'll need a car to enjoy the island.

We recently had the exact choice from RCI. We decided to go with Towers because of the draw of Mullet Bay, the Maho area and the size of the second BR. Pat also gave us the same opinion and details of both. We are traveling with friends so the lack of things for kids to do was not a consideration for us.

Good luck and enjoy whichever you choose.

One thing I forgot regarding the Towers - I was told a few years ago by a sweet little boy whom I love dearly, "the Towers pool bar makes the best French Fries anywhere, Nana" and finally, a couple of years ago we shared a burger plate for lunch - and that sweet 'little boy' was right. Their fries really are pretty good and the young women who run the pool bar are very good, too.

Thanks for your responses everyone. I think we're leaning toward the Towers since we like the location better. Now we just have to find airfare which is going to be a challenge since JetBlue is eliminating the SJU-SXM route.

Just to update since your 99 visit.
Twin beds replaced with full bed in 2nd br
Belair is small resort with fewer than 70 apts. That is major difference with most other SXM resorts.
Beach is pretty large in comparison to others and beach area above restaurant is often also available now.
Pool is small and usually just used by small children.

Between those two, I would take the Towers also, as Belair is just too far from where I personally want to be.

Very subjective choice. I would take Belair.
We prefer small and quiet with instant beach access. Others prefer larger and more activity. Everyone is right!

I suggest Towers as well, larger 2nd bedroom (has its own tv), two full bathrooms in the unit. Full kitchens.

Depending upon age of said teenagers, the medical school is next door. They might enjoy seeing students, or joining a volleyball game on Mullet Beach.

Easier access to Maho and Simpson Bay area for pizza, ice cream, or the other direction to casino complex. Nearer to causeway for trips to French side.

I liked both descriptions. We've owned at the Belair for a long time and love it there. The beach is wonderful and the swimming is fantastic. The pool is somewhat small. We agree with Tom, we like the small and quiet..and by the way, its only 17 steps from our room, down the elevator to the beach and bar!
