Ok so trying to get my ducks lined up for this trip with Newbies and looking at possibly scrub dock for Trellis FMP...

..talked with a lovely lady this morning who advises I need to call central reservations in Tampa to book this far out. ...will I be charged if plans change? ....boating, weather,....etc has a way of making you use plan B and C....never been to scrub so thought I would ask you experts...

...thanks as always <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

I like to book in advance also when possible but if there is a cancellation fee, etc. I'd do it all on the fly. I just returned and Scrub was not busy. Can't imagine you would have a problem on a last minute visit.

I go down ALOT, and have never seen a situation where more than 1/4 of the slips are occupied. Usually we have ZERO itinerary, but in this case we must meet someone and pick them up. They have young's so this makes it very easy for them.

Joy handled our reservation as well. We are going on a full moon night so I was concerned it might be full.

We book our Scrub Island Resort marina slip thru the Tampa reservation office and pay when booking via credit card. We have changed the date of our stay once in the BVI and have not had any issue. We call Scrub in the BVI when our plans change. We have not had to cancel.

Tell Savio, (Awesome Dockmaster) and Kurt (Ferry First Mate) hello from the krewe of Mardi Gras..

Cheers,

Tony

Update...yes your credit card is charged the date of booking and cancellation policy is within 30'days notice...since the reason we are going is for the FMP I can't change dates...so I will take my chances and book on day of pending all goes well and we don't need to deploy plans B one C .. will need to drop $170 for a slip and with exchange to Canadian it's well over $200... Want to make sure we get to enjoy it...

what time is " check in" for the dock? ...will,want to check out the concrete jungle since we will be there...are there any beach areas on Scrub to access? What are your fav things to,do,while there?...keeping in mind resorts are,not my thing <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

Give me the scoop <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Clapping.gif" alt="" />

Beyond excited to,see my ticker

It is a good hike around the island, also don't miss the beach on the north side. They will take you in a car if you don't want to walk. You can also take the dinghy out and snorkel diamond reef. Dinghy mooring is just past the concrete thing.

Kim, Scrub is one of our favorites. We stay one to two nights in a slip every trip. We have arrived at 8:00 am, that's when the harbor master arrives. There are 3 sandy beaches. One right adjacent to the marina, it has SUP's and Kayaks available for use, beach chairs and a big floating trampoline. The second beach is called honeymoon beach, accessible via kayak only. It is very small, it is across the channel from Cam Bay. The second, and our favorite, is North Beach. It is on the north side of Scrub Island. Fairly long beach, large reef, OK snorkeling. Nice pool, beach bar, lounge chairs under shade trees. You can walk to this beach or catch a ride in one of the small trucks. In the main resort area, there is an awesome infinity pool, with great views toward Marina Cay and Trellis. This pool has a swim up bar and a hot tub. The lower pool also has a swim up bar. There is a water slide connecting the two pools. The marina has very nice, large private showers, although they lack having AC. At night they turn on the underwater lights which attract large tarpon and other fish. The people we have met there, guests and staff have all been very friendly.

Tony, are the SUP's and kayaks available to the hotel guests too? We're staying there 2 nights pre-charter next month and the place sounds absolutely wonderful!

"Concrete thing"? Come on, be nice. Repairs soon come.

At Scrub now. Slips pretty empty, but they were totally full for the last Full Moon party, as were Trellis and MC.

Very windy, but the sun is shining today.

SSS, wasn't referring to your post, but to the reference to the "concrete thing" near the mooring line on Diamond Reef!

We were just there at the beginning of February for a night in a slip at Marina. We arrived at about 11 am or so and departed about lunch time the next day, just the Admiral and myself.... our excuse for the bareboat charter was to celebrate our 50th Bdays....
So, we really enjoy Scrub for an overnight stay during the charter.
We, alike a lot of others, don't like to have a set schedule/itinerary, so I just call them the afternoon before our arrival (I think the number I used is 284-496-0304 direct to Scrub) and make a slip reservation.
A few weeks ago when we were there, we were on 44 ft mono and I think our total cost for the overnight was about $130 or so. For the first time we had breakfast up in their dining room and it was fantastic, and the cost was reasonable.
Have fun!

We defaulted to the Scrub marina in January when Marina Cay was full (including three dinghies "holding" mooring balls). No problem getting a slip at Scrub, but it did cost $170 for a 44 foot cat. I am not a fan of the facility. It just doesn't seem like it belongs there. The lack of AC in the showers is absurd. Only bright spot was the Millennials onboard got to take the "free" ferry to the FMP at Trellis.

Thansk folks...we will likely call a few days in advance and get something...

....PS. ...we are boomers ...but plan on taking the free ferry to FMP...never understood all those generational terms of endearment. ....and never could resist a good party

For a FMP slip you should make a reservation well in advance. They do fill up for those.

CottageGirl,

Yes the SUP's and kayaks are available at no cost for the hotel, and villa guests to use. The policy regarding marina guests using them has changed over time but last few trips they were free for us to use.

They also let the Marina guests use the big fluffy beach towels at no cost provided you return them.

Enjoy your visit,

Tony

I think you can check-in to your slip pretty much any time of day. We usually try to get there by noon so we can enjoy the pool during the afternoon. The guys on the dock are "Savio" and "Paul". In addition to 16, they can usually be reached on 74. Once your boat is secure, head to the office to check-in. Be nice and polite (of course you would be) and ask for any discounts or perks, I usually get something. She will give you towel cards for your guests and the WiFi Password. You can use your boat slip number to charge food and drinks if you like. You might see Davide and/or Cele somewhere around the property, and if you are lucky (and play your cards right) get invited up to their home.

Thanks Tony! I've tried paddle boarding before (in Bora Bora and on our little lake at home) and would love to try again.
We're looking forward to a little pre-charter splurge. :-)

Kim,

Well summarized above, just to add a few notes: We stayed one night 4 weeks ago and it seemed we got a better deal at $170 from the call center for a 48 cat than some late afternoon arrivals that didn't have a reservation. The slips were nearly full by sunset and I heard a late arriving 44 mono was paying $230 without a reservation. Marriott told us they would be flexible with a day leeway as long as they had the room to do so.

The cost was inclusive of garbage, water and power unlike VGYH. Also, don't forget the resort access and clean towels!

Of significance was the impact of the north swell that came up shortly after sunset that rocked the marina hard. The charter didn't have snubbers, so we did the best we could with all fenders out and seven dock lines. Even the 90' Hargrave was rocking pretty good.

The newbies didn't sleep well, but we sure did. Being rocked to sleep in a marina is far less restless than being rocked at anchor for the people responsible for the boat.

We did mid-trip stays for one night in Spanish town in '14 and '15, but the consensus was we would go back to Scrub next year despite the swell.

Regards,
Brett

That is interesting. On my last stay there power and water and garbage were extra charges. But the biggest extra was the bar tab from the swim up bar. Those drinks are great and you cant beat the view from the infinity pool but beware, I think my tab was higher than the dock fee.

In the low season when they offer the TTOL special which included a $25 bar credit, a couple of Bushwackers wiped out that credit, but they sure are good!

Will be at the Scrub marina from 04/11 - 04/13 and then on to North Sound for a few more days. We will be at Leverick's BBQ on Friday, big hello to Nick, but also wanted to show our newbie crew the Michael Bean Happy Arrr. What is the best way to leave the cat at the marina slip at Scrub and get back and forth to Leverick's for Michael Bean show? I've seen some reference to a 'Tiger' water taxi, hitting various points on VG. How can I make that work from Scrub? Help!

A couple years ago my parents rented a villa near Leverick Bay, we all sailed to Scrub. They took the North Sound Express Ferry from Trellis to Spanish Town, fairly easy to do but not sure if their schedule would get you back to Scrub after the Beans show without spending the night.
