We were back on Sunday, May 24th from 10 wonderful days at CRC. We flew out of BOS this year and used a car service to drop us off and pick us up. Even though PVD is only 25 minutes from home, the price difference on the flight out of BOS vs. PVD was a no-brainer and even with the car service we were still well ahead of the game dollar-wise.

We don’t like doing too much planning and plotting and prefer to just take each day as it comes, so I’m not going to describe all the day to day activities as they pretty much all went like this:

Wake up – coffee, eggs & bagels for breakfast @ CRC.
Head to Smuggler’s – swim, snorkel and lounge for a few hours or swimming right at CRC
Back to CRC – drinks upstairs on balcony, late afternoon sun and a game of Scrabble or cards
Drop into Bomba’s for a drink and hang out for awhile
Dinner alternated between Sebastian’s, Coco Plums, Cruzin and Jolly Roger.
Sleep.
Repeat.

The weather was different from last year. Lots of clouds, but you would get a few hours of sun each day. One day was cloudy the entire day. Rained a few nights. The swells were really up after the second day at CRC and the beach was noticeably smaller. Great for the surfers, but they would knock you right off your feet. It calmed down by the end of the week, but the sand had not completely returned.

Sidebars:

Arrived in STT with enough time to make the 4:30 ferry to WE. There were only about a dozen of us to go through C&I so it went fairly quickly – only to discover as I was about to go through that my husband had grabbed the wrong carryon – it wasn’t mine. Identical bags, same brand, color and size, but not mine. Terrific. Jerry was waiting for us and we went over to fill out the paperwork for the car. Stopped at Big Ben’s Supermart and stocked up before heading over to CRC. That place is great – had everything we wanted and so close too.

IslandJim, who lives two houses over from CRC, came over and introduced himself when we got in and were getting settled.

YIPPEE – there is sand in Apple Bay!!! Mix a few cocktails to unwind before heading down to Sebastians for a bite. Maria at the bar remembered us from last year and we caught up with her while eating.

Jerry had suggested calling Marjorie @ Smith’s to see if she could have one of the taxi drivers look for my bag, so I spoke to her and she said she would look into it and to give her a call back later in the day. Marjorie makes arrangements to take the wrong bag back to CA on the first ferry and get it over to the USAir counter. Not much more we can do, so head downstairs to the beach. Spent the day right there swimming and sunning. Spoke to Marjorie that afternoon and no luck. The next morning I looked up the phone number for the US Air and started making some calls myself (afraid to see what the cellphone bill will be). My bag was indeed sitting at the USAir counter in STT – now I need to get it. Having resigned ourselves to the fact that we just have to suck it up and take the ferry back over and pick up the bag, we get dressed and start heading out. Wait a minute I’ve got an idea! Stop at Jerry’s – explain the situation to him and he immediately gets on the phone and calls a friend of his over in Red Hook and asks him to go pick up the bag for me and put it on the next ferry. Jerry then calls USAir ticket counter and makes all the arrangements. Everything’s all taken care of he says, go enjoy the day and your bag will be on the last ferry into WE. I could kiss him I’m so excited!

Drove over to Trellis Bay on Sunday and checked out the East End of the island. It was nice, but we still like the West End and the Apple Bay area best.

Took the ferry over to Anegada on Monday. Walker met us at the ferry and drove us over to Cow Wreck for the day. Simply amazing. Walker & Nancy were packing up the house to go back to Houston, so we walked the beach, swam, and just hung out for the day. Walker drove us over to Red Pond to see the flamingos and then to the iguana rehabilitation center. Thank you again Walker & Nancy for a great day and the tasty shark.

Bill H. and Di were sitting in front of us on the ferry over to Anegada.

Went into Road Town on Wednesday – bad decision – cruise ship in town. Oh well, we’re here now. Did a little shopping and walked around. Lots of construction going on.
I really wanted to get my son a shirt from the Bat Cave but it was only 11:00 a.m. He’s been a Batman fan since he could walk, so I just knew he would love something with the logo on it. Went into Spaghetti Junction and asked one of the waitresses if she could help me out – not a problem. She took us upstairs and we dug through the stockroom to find him couple of T-shirts and a shotglass.

Went into Soper’s Hole a few times for the ATM and some cigars and trinkets @ Pusser’s.

Ran into Cheryl (Purple Pineapple) a few times around the island.

It was great seeing Daz, his mom Ruby and Tanisha at CocoPlums, and meeting Tanisha’s sister, Emma, who is helping with the waitressing duties. She’s adorable. Daz has some big plans for the place which he hopes will be ready by the end of the year. He has a page on MySpace for CocoPlums, if you’re on there and he said he would post updates. Met some real characters over at Bomba’s (and I didn’t lose my sandals this year). Maria the bartender was too sweet and Big Sexy (that’s his name, I’m not making it up) was a lot of fun.

I know it doesn’t sound as exciting and action packed as some of the other trip reports posted, but sometimes we just enjoy relaxing and spending time alone together.
