At 7:23 (time on our condo clock) I felt & saw all the furniture, including the chair I was sitting in, move. Everything shook for about 3 mins.

Thanks for the confirmation MzLime. Hubby just woke up and said perhaps I had had too much wine last evening. LOL

There was a 6.0 earthquake centered about 200 miles to the east of SXM at 7:26 AST.

Yup, felt it here in Simpson's Bay. We had one at home a few years ago. Strange for Maine. It is a very unnerving feeling.

Dr Doug we're staying at your favorite place, Divi. Starting our second week. We usually stay one week at Divi & one at GCBC but by the time I remembered to book GCBC it was full. I think we'll stop there while on island to make sure we book for 2017.

We were on island when an earthquake hit Magnitude 7.4 - MARTINIQUE REGION in 2007, we were inside our unit at The Towers, the refrigerator began moving across the room .
Story of the quake made the morning papers.

Thanks
That's what I thought. We're in Bldg 8 and my wife felt it while she was still in bed. Guess I'm a deep sleeper.

Earthquakes being felt are really not all that unusual on St. Maarten, although the first time we heard about one having happened we were skeptical.

And on another occasion, our adult kids were in one of the penthouse units above us and told us about it the following morning and we thought, like others here, 'perhaps too much vino for them last night?' - but we were assured by many it had actually happened. While their wine glasses were dancing across the coffee table upstairs, we slept right through it a floor below them.

Since then we've experienced them a few times ourselves and it is a slightly unnerving experience, and particularly so when you're in an upper unit in a tall building. I think the visual and sensory effects may even be amplified by the height, if that's possible.

Respectfully,

pat
