And the first of the morning (very good) news is I actually see sun reflecting off Mullet Pond and streaming onto our balcony and into the living room. YAY!! And the other side of that coin is if it manages to stay with us and prove the weather forecasters wrong yet again, it's going to be a hot, hot, hot kind of day since there's not too much breeze out there so far. Some people are just never satisfied!

It's 8:05 and the early AA flight just roared down the runway and up into the clouds. I love the view from our main balcony......

Coffee done and I'm thinking we're heading off to El Zafira for breakfast and hopefully some beach time......

Hours later - We had such a very nice day there.....breakfast with mimosas and plenty of time on the beach and then for dessert (or lunch?) we had BBCs. A total treat and a lovely day and then home to our home away from home.

And as I'm sitting here on my balcony watching the golfers and enjoying the breezes, I'm thinking I really don't feel like going out to eat tonight so perhaps we'll dine here alfresco and finish up some leftovers in the fridge. Lord knows, there's plenty there......

Tonight is supposed to be a full moon, but sadly, there's such a heavy cloud cover, we can't see it at all from our vantage point.

And so, tomorrow, perhaps an instant replay of today but without the dinner on our balcony since we're joining friends for an evening out.

Oh, and Saba? She be gone again!

Respectfully,

pat

It was about as good as a day can get, and no - not leaving tomorrow. We're here until Wednesday and then it's back to the real world again.

OK I haven't been there for 6 years, but the golf course is back?????????????

Never thought that would happen. Guess by now all of those old houses have been torn down.

The golf course is certainly not the best, but some folks still enjoy playing there. If there is enough rain, it does get green and they try to keep it trimmed so it often doesn't look too bad. The old properties have all been cleaned up a few years ago and nothing has been developed there yet, but there is talk about a major hotel franchise doing something there in the future. It might happen, but who knows? The area does look much nicer with those buildings all gone.

Actually the golf course looks worse than it usually does if that possible. But a lot of folks out playing when I drove by.

The weather, contrary to all weather reports, has been very good but just not as pretty as it usually is. I'm not getting the beautiful day breaks and sun-rises but we're also not frying every time we step out the door, and with the exception of 3-4 days, there has been no need to keep the airco on because the constant breezes have been wonderful. And basically the dreaded moskies have been non-existent, at least in our location and most of the places we've been. They'd need the armor of a gladiator to exist and survive these winds.

Re the golf course, it's the same old course - no improvements to speak of. It's green when it rains (since they still water it with a truck every now and then whether it needs it or not........) and it's straw most of the rest of the time, but the challenge is equal to all and those who play it regularly still have a great time doing so. The annual SXM Open was going on the first weekend we were here and they held their Santa Claus Scramble one of the weekend's we were here in December so it is still well use and the only show in town, which often becomes the case......and in agreement with the previous poster, when we first arrived I think the course looked about the worse I've ever seen. Amazing what a few nights of steady rain can do!

The ruins from Mullet have been gone for years now - unlike that which once was La Belle Creole on the French side - and I think there will always be talk of the property being redeveloped. Personally speaking, I hope it never is - the people of St. Maarten deserve to have one area to truly enjoy but I guess that is just a dream of mine, and IMHO, if there's ONE THING this island doesn't need, it's another big resort!!

Glad to hear the weather has been holding out for you! We very much enjoyed El Zafiro in March too. We had lunch though think we may need to try breakfast next year--what did you have besides mimosas (by the way, my favorite way to start the day! ) enjoying your reports, thanks for sharing.

Funny thing about EZ - we've never had a less than good meal there and yet I spoke to someone living here who said over many visits, they've yet to have a good one.

We're pretty basic diners - eggs sunny side up with sausage and short stack of pancakes with bacon for DH. I really had hoped for French Toast but they make it with store bread as opposed to baguettes so we both passed. I didn't notice eggs Benedict but for that we always go to SBYC.

We both very much enjoyed our breakfasts and then the young woman who owns (or manages - not sure which...) introduced us to her beautiful little daughter, Bella. Eight months old and already with a smile that could easily melt the heart of a snowman in January at the North Pole. And a spirit to match......

Thanks for your reports Pat-I've missed alot but enjoy the ones I've read. Two trips a year-very nice! Chesterfield's does nice Eggs Benedict but I'm sure that you know that.

As far as Mullet, I am absolutely with you, 1 MILLION percent! I am personally stunned that the property has not been developed in the now going on 21 years since Luis, but redevelopment of that property would be the WORST thing that could happen there! If it is redeveloped, it will be another Dawn Beach--a beach with absolutely no practical public access, unless you want to walk in.

Enjoy your evening with you-know-who!!

Absolutely!! And if you're not a fan of Canadian bacon, they will even make them with sausages if you prefer!!

And moxie, we've had many a breakfast at Chesterfields but I don't think I ever tried EB there. Must do next time. And 2015 will be our last twice a year visit for a while - doing something totally different Fall of 2016 but maybe next year - who knows! I agree about Mullet!
I was afraid to say that, being a visitor and not a resident, but if they turn it into another resort the residents will suffer too.
They really enjoy this beach, and it is "their" beach!
Here's another vote to leave Mullet the way it is!!

Sad to see things you liked take a turn for the worse. Dawn Beach, Cupecoy, Karaktor come to mind.

Yes Cupecoy did use to be a fun beach. We once stayed in house (that is no longer there) that overlooked both Cupecoy and Long beaches. That was quite a rental house. Of course the property was super valuable.

Even better than the Eggs Benedict at the Yacht Club are the Eggs Norwegian. Same idea, but with smoked salmon and a dill sauce if memory serves me correctly.
