Hello experts!

We have finally decided and will be land-based on Jost from 6/26-7/1.
Please send me your must meals and must experiences. We are interested in food, live music is any and water sports experiences. I am excited to hear any and all recommendations.

Thank you all....

Foxy's and corsairs in Great Harbor. Bubbly pool is great fun when those north swells are in high gear. Soggy Dollar for a Painkiller.

Slim chance of the bubbly pool working in June..but " Foxy's Taboo" and " B Line" on Little Jost are well worth a visit..

Probably the best "sleeper" venue on JVD....Ali Babas in Great Harbour. Dinner at 7, make reservations!! BBQ "Pig Roast" (no pig) is well worth it. Outstanding Roti's too.

A blender full of Bushwackers at Harris's. Relaxing in the shade at One Love while the masses are down at Soggy Dollar. Trying to flip your bottle cap into the cup at B Line...

Jewel's Punch and fresh baked goods at the snack bar near Foxy's Taboo. The walk to the Bubbly Pool is fun whether or not the surf is up. We enjoy Sidney's in Little Harbor as well. We love catching Reuben Chinnery when he plays; we've seen him a couple of times at One Love. Roti at Gertrude's is my favorite lunch.

Cheers, RickG

Great list!

To add a few more of our favorites:
walk up the spine of the island from either end
rent a dinghy and check out Sandy Spit and Sandy Cay followed by cocktails at B-Line.
Banana Bread from Myrtle (little shop near Taboo)
Lunch at Hendo's
BBQ on Friday or Saturday at Foxy's
Coco Loco's for conch fritters
Cocktails with Darren at Taboo (within walking distance of villa - even better)

Enjoy the Soggy side of the beach in the morning before the dayboats show up, hang under the seagrape trees at Ivan's in the afternoon
A Party Punch and burger from Jewel's new location over near Foxy's Taboo (and any of Myrtle's baked goods!)
Swim, snorkel or paddle over to B-Line (or ask Darren at Taboo to call Glenn for a dinghy ride)
Lobster quesadilla at One Love, chicken roti at Gertrudes, pizza from Pizza Dave @ Corsairs, definitely the breakfast sandwiches from Hilda!
Sit at Corsairs with a voodoo punch and watch the world go by
Visit with Foxy in the mornings
Explore the cut between Jost and Little Jost via paddle board
Night paddle in Great Harbor or Diamond Cay with underwater LED lights
If you're certified, dive with JVD Scuba - if not, they also offer a "resort course" dive in shallow waters

And, if you're feeling really adventurous, rent a jeep and drive over the spine of the island. That's some serious off-roading right there, not for the faint of heart!

Relax, slow down, and take the time to get to know the wonderful people who live there!

Felix

When we were there in Nov it was the first time we had rented a vehicle on JVD. While drinking and talking to Janet/Janice? at Sydney's she told us that road was impassable. Maybe she was just speaking to all the rain we had during that period. Did you guys do the trip over the spine when you were down then?

We were just down in March and did NOT drive the entire spine. I hiked the spine from the East End to the highest point (about 2.5 miles from the villa---mainly uphill on the way out) on Jost and back. I did not go down into Great Harbour or onto the West End. Saving that for my trip this summer!

The road (if you want to call it that) over the top (at its highest point) is grass covered and had many rocks throughout. We have never driven over the top of the spine out of respect for the rental vehicle and its owners.

I drove most of the spine in late October last year, with permission from the rental company. The car was fine. There is one largely impassable spot towards the east end that I did once in a 4WD Jimny, but probably wouldn't attempt again unless approaching from the east end - even then it's pretty challenging. You could go from White Bay to Great Harbor fairly easily though.

We have walked the spine from White Bay to Foxy's four times. It's quite a nice hike ... not for the faint of heart. Even with a 4WD I would be leery. There is one section that is VERY steep, rocky and washed out.

I believe they may be picking folks up to go to B Line..no sure..Bonky runs the place now and may have a phone # to call..I'll see what I can do..otherwise folks at the dock at Taboo might run you over for a cold one!

Ask Darren at Taboo to call Bonky or Glenn for you, they can pick you up in a dinghy and bring you over. On calm days we have also paddle boarded/snorkeled the shoreline all the way from the shore on the east side of Taboo to B Line, but it's a long way. The good news is that the return is usually a lot easier smile

Yes, I'd recommend taking a ride over and around JVD if you're looking to shake it up. We went on an ATV tour, but you could just as easily rent ATVs and go out on your own. Had a blast and great views! Here is a video of that particular trip, with the ATV ride starting at the 6m:25s mark.

We inquired about the ATV tour when we were down in March 2016 and were told that it was no longer in business on the island.

Here you go. Yea, we didn't walk down there on our last January trip, so I'm not sure if they're still operating. Good luck!
