We are planning on taking a day trip to Saba on our upcoming trip to SXM.
We have already decided on flying verses taking the ferry for the carrier like landing experience.
How would I arrange and island tour? Is there any one town that would be interesting to walk around on foot? Is there any easy hiking trails with nice that we could do? Any recommendations on a place for lunch?

Any help from those that have experienced a Saba day trip would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Dave

D and C,

We've done both day trips and stay-overs. When we did our day trip we booked it through our activities director at our resort so depending on where you're staying, that would be my first suggestion if you're staying in a hotel situation. If not, you could probably do the same trip on your own.

Our day was a ride over on the Edge where, upon arrival, we were met by a taxi/van driver who escorted us for the day. He took us through the highlights, allowing for sight-seeing for some and hiking time for others in the group. We lunched at the Queens Garden Inn - which I highly recommend - and finished up our day at the boat dock for the trip home. I'd be willing to bet someone could hook you up with a similar tour but via the airport.

On that first trip, it was a packaged tour that included the Edge which one of us enjoyed and the other three - not so much, but on a subsequent trip we flew and it was pretty cool, too, and for sure, it would allow more time for photo ops and exploring. The little museum is worth a walk through and for sure, a drive through their hydroponic garden is a must do.

Saba is incredibly beautiful and if you're looking for a place to get away from everything and just chill, this is one very beautiful place to do it. We liked it so much on that first visit that we ultimately booked a three night stay over at the Queens Garden. Since then, several friends have done it and loved it, too, but IMHO, three nights was really one more than we needed and next time we go, I think I'd prefer an early morning flight in, a two night stay and then passage back on the Edge.

last january, after getting off the plane we just approached a woman acting as a taxi "coordinator", and mentioned we wanted an island tour...she hooked us up with a taxi driver that took care of us for the day...i believe it was $50 for the two of us

i don't think there was a ferry trip that day, so it wasn't a very busy day on the island

We are staying at BSV, an would be doing everything entirely on our own. I guess we could just find a taxi that would do an island tour and act as our guide when we arrive. We are going for the beauty of the island. In your opinion, is there any "must sees"?

Thanks again,

Dave

Thank you Islandboi. That's who I'll look for. Did the driver drop you off and pick you up at different locations or stay with you the entire time?

Thank you

We were staying at the Simpson Bay resort and registered for a day tour at the activity center next to the Simpson Bay marina. You will need to take your passport but they scheduled the tour and lunch at the little town on top of the mountain. It was a good trip and we were glad we went. It can be a bumpy ride over so if you get sea sick you may want to take some medicine before you go.

he drove us around the island for like 2.5-3 hours, stopping several times to let us get out and check out some sites (lookouts, churches, handicraft shops, drink here and there, etc.)...he never rushed us

then around 11:30-12:00 he dropped us off in one of the bigger towns, Windwardside, and left us on our own for a couple of hours until he came back to get us to take us back to the airport

Fly, worth it for many reasons.

There are Taxi's when you get out of the plane that will take care of you, only about 9 taxi's on island. They will take care of you, drop you off and pick you back up where ever as well as give you suggestions.

The only hike we did was to the top and back down. It is not an easy stroll, the stairs get tiring both up and back down but the view was worth it.

We did a single night over there at Queen's Garden, besides the hike it was one of the more relaxing places I have been. We did the hike just after arrival, had a nice dinner that evening and then sat around the pool area the next day until time to go.

Enjoy your trip!

I prefer the Isle seat

Definitely flying over. Thanks for you input.

Islandboi,

That sounds exactly what we are looking for.

Thanks to all for your help,
