Im taking my family of 11 to SXM next February. We are staying at the Alamanda on Orient Beach. Does anyone know if the beach and the village restaurants have child friendly menus?
I'd love to go to Grand Case for dinner, too. I know that the restaurants are upscale, do you know if they are okay with kids?

I think the children would love Calmos in Grand Case - tables are on the beach & the children can play in the sand while waiting for their food. We see children there all the time.

Gotta Caribbean soul I can barely control and some Texas hidden here in my heart...(J.B.)

The lolos are also a great place to go with the kids.

As far as the upscale restaurants in Grand Case, they are perfectly fine with kids, so long as they are well behaved, and I'm sure yours are! I think some of them have kid menus, but I'm sure you could get a simple pasta or similar too. For another option for upscale French food, you could try Dreams, which is in Nettle Bay. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, and in addition to classic French favorites, they have kid friendly things like pizza and burgers.

Peaceful Eastern North Carolin...
Directed to no one in particular:

I grew up in a military family, and as a result traveled the world as a child. My parents never ordered from a children's menu for me. Each would order what they wanted, and ask for an empty plate for me. I got a little of each adult's meal, which was plenty of food for a child. The added benefit is that I grew up loving all kinds of food, not just pizza and burgers.

I bet that almost never happens today. Good way to try different foods.

I've often seen French families with children at Le Piment, in Orient Village.

I'm going where the weather suits my clothes.

Lindavid,

Over forty plus years worth of annual trips, we've traveled with our kids and later our grandkids and we have never been treated less than graciously at each and every establishment we've visited, from beach places to some of the nicest restaurants on the island, or at least at the time of those visits.

In my experiences, we knew when the kids got over-tired or their moods were such that a high end place at 8:00 pm wouldn't be a great idea and we respected those factors. Just a couple of weeks ago we saw a young family with children at Spiga and the kids were better behaved than some adults we've seen at dinner. I'm often amazed at how they can rise to the occasion and really want to surpass their parents expectations.

I wouldn't worry too much about bringing your kids to the nicer places as long as you keep in mind the hour and their endurance and you allow them bring along some form of personal amusement for when the boredom sets in.

Enjoy the restaurants and the kids - mine still occasionally bring up memories of some of the nicer places they experienced over the years and so do their kids. And of course, amid those experiences there were a couple of nights when we took turns walking the sidewalks with them when they just couldn't manage it. But the bottom line, enjoy them while you can and offer them the experiences of a lifetime as you're able. Life is short and they grow up all too soon.

I guess I need to pay closer attention because I missed that little factoid. Do I get a star on my forehead or something equally innocuous?

Since that averages out to almost seven hundred posts a year, I guess I've clearly spent way too much of my time here and should definitely offer my most sincere thanks to Carol and Eric for allowing me their forum to air my thoughts and opinions over all these years

We had our 8 and 10 year old kids with us last year in SXM and St. Bart's and never had any issue at any restaurant. My kids enjoy a wide variety of food and don't eat off of kid's menus at home or when we travel, so that is never a concern for us. However, even the best behaved child can get a little antsy or bored during a long meal so knowing there is a place for them to go or to take them if needed always reduces my anxiety about bothering other customers.

I definitely think Calmos is great and the restaurants in Orient Village are perfect since they are open to the little plaza and there are always kids there. So, if the kids need a little break from sitting while the parents have another glass of wine, everyone is happy.
