Hi all - this yr the only time we have available to make it down is from Aug 7-20th.

My questions are
1. will weather likely be a problem (hurricane season?)
2. will many restaurants and bars and attractions (like jumbies) be closed making for limited spots to visit

Thank you for your input. This year may just not be a yr where it makes sense to come down. -David

An island state of mind
We've been down the past 2 Augusts and loved it. Although the threat always exists, the weather was perfect and some places are closed, but there's always plenty to do.

10 % chance you will have one day of altered activities. 2% chance you will be called in off the water for 1 or 2 days due to nearby hurricane. Very few other boats. Warmest water. Our favorite time to be there since in Texas is 105F. Would recommend a boat with A/C for those anchorages with little wind or with bugs at night, but if you plan to anchor in places with reliable winds we have rarely needed the A/C.

Well if you like to look at a statistical view of your chances of a storm in the BVI in August here you go:

[Linked Image]

Stormcarib ( http://www.stormcarib.com ) has a great repository of storm information, and has some great tools that allow you to pick your island and drill down.

From a non-statistical viewpoint… We been in August and had great weather and nice winds, but that is not the norm. No, it is not Texas hot, but the humidity can be intense.

Things will be slower, but there will be a whole lot less people to contend with. The water will be warm and blue and that is what it is all about for us.

Probably a good month to invest in trip insurance, but if you have the time off scheduled - I would go in a heartbeat.

We absolutely love love love August - a few breezes, flat seas - great for snorkeling
