We've always bareboated.but have friends who would like to go on a crewed charter and I don't know who to recommend them to. Right now they have 2 couples, but may add 2 more couples. Recommendations anyone?

Voyage has some pretty decent dedicated crews on their bigger boats. Moorings sends their crews to whichever boats have been chartered.

There are a few independent boats that advertise here that get great reviews.

I prefer captain only, and most meals ashore in BVIs

We have sailed Bella Vita twice and are going for our third trip this summer. Capt. Derek and Brenda are great.

You can't go wrong with Catatonic

or Voyage. Their best crew is Stuart & Louize.

If they want a Captain-Only charter they should look into Blue Moon, who is a site sponsor here. Can't go wrong with Captain Jim!

I was always eager to avoid captain, and wanted to truly bareboat.. Cost savings but more because I like to do the sailing myself and potential for bad fit...

Savings in captain only (added to bareboat) vs full crew likely enough to pay for many meals ashore and many drinks.

Met the crew from Blue Moon at Bucks Market VGYC.
Captain Jack and Mate Jaimey seem like very hospitable
folks with nothing on their mind but making their guests happy.
I know Capt Jim is or was also with Blue Moon and I have no info
about wether he still is or not. He also got great reviews here.
Now I've told you everything I know about crewed charters.

Moorings crewed boats have live aboard crews like any other company. You can bareboat and have a crew placed onboard but that is a different operation from their crewed fleet.
