Has anyone used an I-pad at Club O? We need to be connected to our e-mail while there and checking how it does there. Thanks in advance.

We've used ours for the last few years. Haven't had a problem.

I've used my iPad at Club O the last four years and it works fine.

We are at Club Orient now and have two laptops with us. Two we always bring and usually have no problems with.

One has Windows 10 and has a wireless networking card that supports the wireless networking standards 802.11b/g/n, and the other older laptop runs Windows 7 and has a wireless networking card that supports only 802.11a/b/g wireless networking standards.

This is the first year that the older laptop WILL NOT connect to the new and improved Club Orient Wireless Network. It sees the network, but cannot connect to it, and does not even get to the point where it asks you for the wireless network password.

So I suspect if you come here with any older devices that support only up to the 802.11g or 54G wireless standards you might be now out of luck here.

I am happy to say that the Internet connection here is truthfully and actually immensely improved!!

Can you hard wire with Cat 5 and at lease use the laptop?
Or upgrade to Windows 10! Maybe not there but when you get home.
I did it to my old Asus Windows 7 and it works great now and faster.
Cheers

No hard wire connection available here.

The old laptop is also not compatible with Windows 10, but in this case I don't believe that would have done a thing. The wireless card in it simply cannot do what it was not designed to do. Wireless "N" was a pipe dream when that card was made.

Probably could have shared the Internet connection from the newer laptop with the older one, but forgot to bring a crossover Ethernet cable to connect the two laptops. It's really not been a big issue, as we have a Kindle HD that connects wirelessly as well.

I just wanted to basically alert people that it appears the age old Wireless "G" standard seems to no longer be supported here.

That is really unusual, my guess it maybe a driver problem. You may need to update the driver for you wireless card. You cannot do it from there, but probably can when you get home.

Did a quick google search and that shows a lot of people have the problem with windows7 and N, but the driver update seemed to work for most all.

So when they upgraded they took out the cat-5 connections? We used cat-5 cable last year when we were there. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" />

Eric Hill,
The wireless card in this Win 7 Professional Lenovo laptop is an Intel Pro Wireless 3945abg - Intrigued by your advice I went to Intel (with the laptop that works fine) and did the 101MB download of the latest Win 7 64 bit Intel ProSet Driver v18.40.0 for this particular card, having a flash drive it was transferred to the Win 7 laptop and installed, and rebooted. No change. Sees the network, but that's it. It never even gets to the wireless network password prompt. This Win 7 laptop is also very lean, and was thoroughly updated (before I got here) and would bet my life it's malware/virus free... I really think that 802.11g (54G) connection support here is gonzo!!

For MORWAVES There are a couple of ports for Ethernet in this room (by the phone) - (a Minisuite) and they are dead as I do have a regular Ethernet cable here and tried them. The phone is also using Cat 5 and thus is now most probably VOIP (Voice Over IP), and I did not start messing with the phone for the sake of resolving this issue.

There is also an ACTIVE Ethernet pass-thru on the phone, but when you plug into it, you'll twirl to establish a connection for a while but result with no Internet Connection. It's apparently relegated for Phone only... not data.
